| If you're going to let a $275 thing come between family, you can't afford a $275 thing. |
If you can't afford the cost to replace something your kid is playing with, he shouldn't be playing with it. You are like that woman who lost Carrie's shoes in SATC. |
accidentally break it? I don't know, if my kid were jumping on something that did not belong to us I would tell kid to stop jumping on item. If I "borrowed" something that I sensed was expensive, not supposed to borrow and I saw my friend's kid jumping on it I would tell the kid to stop jumping on it. |
No one needs a beach house either. |
OP said in the original post that the COUSIN wanted to see how it rode so let’s be honest here, it wasn’t just the kid who stepped on it who used the board. Cousin knew darn well that board was not to be used but didn’t care and even let a guest step on it. Anyone who boogie boards knows you don’t step on it! |
| Op is ridiculous and petty. |
| The aunt who is “butting in” is an OWNER of a house you were a GUEST at. Any stuff you leave there is HER property along with the other co-owners. The rules are HERS along with the co-owners to enforce, not yours. I think you guys are going to get voted out of the beach house and that 275 board is about to be very expensive. But hey you stuck to your guns and got you $100 bucks! |
| Team OP here. Cousin really sucks. |
You both are missing the point. If this was a mountain vacation home and it was $300 snowboard involved, the cousin should still not have borrowed it and absolutely paid for its replacement. The cousin is in the wrong here. |
You embarrass yourself by not reading the thread. Op’s father is also a co-owner. |
+1 it’s not going to last once the first sibling passed away. If op likes going to the house she best hope the first to die isn’t her fil. |

For the people googling the 275 boogie board, I found them!!
https://hubboards.com/collections/boards For the record, I think the cousin shouldn’t have touched or taken the board but also, who the heck buys a boogie board for 275 dollars? |
| Cousins and parents of the brat who broke it should split the full replacement cost. |
Sounds like the cousin is the one who is in danger of being voted out by breaking the house rules. Aunt is just embarrassed she raised him so poorly. |
Second PP. Totally agree. But it's a little hypocritical of a beach house owner criticizing someone for splurging on a $275 boogie board, no? |
