The boogie board was $275.
The child that broke the board wasn't staying at the house, but they were all at the beach at the same time.
We have other things at the house that we allow others to use and these are in the main shed or in the house. I disagree with some of you about just letting this go. The rules of the house were clear. We have not had issues in the past 12 years that we have been using it. If it was me who damaged something, I'd replace it, and we did this once when we bought a new beach umbrella when the old one another cousin contributed broke as I was opening it.
Glad the cousin finally agreed to compensate us and annoyed his mom is getting in the middle.

If this family is like most families, they will all talk about you guys and how ungrateful and cheap you were. I hope the $137.50 was worth it.

3 siblings own the beach house and how many adult or other DC's did each produce? 1 had 4 children who now all have families? 1 had 2? Is house usage split evenly between the 3 owners? Does 1 cousin family spend more time at the house and bring their friends and their kids?

It sounds like more is going on the boogie board. If nothing else is going on buy a locker for your own stuff or take it home.

we have an expensive boogie board as we go to the beach a lot. everyone who has tried it compared to the costco version we also own fight to use it. It is a much more enjoyable experience. with many things, bikes, skates, shoes, cars, etc.. you can pay for better quality. For most people, a.$40 board is fine, but if you love to board and do it frequently, the higher end brands are much better. Sounds like OPs son was into the sport.
