Same here. Long time DCPS and Deal parent (a decade+). For the first time I have a kid headed off to private for 9th. To be honest, I can't freaking wait. I am so incredibly done with Deal and DCPS. |
I agree too and I have an 8th grader. I think Principal Neal is great! Removing her is just crazy! Assume angry person is totally irrational right now. The only person spewing poison are the folks here demanding everyone cater to their whims. |
Goodbye enjoy private. |
Agree. |

Please advocate for a removal of cohorting restrictions (e.g. no switching classes), which are preventing a return to in-person instruction.

What you're describing is terrible. The AP wouldn't avoid you if he thought the Principal would have a problem with it, and the teacher wouldn't pull this stunt if she thought the Principal would do anything about it. This is how all the APs and some teachers behave now, and Neal retaliates if people complain. You don't think this merits removal? |
Thanks! Enjoy Zoom school. |
My kid is going to on to HS which won’t be on Zoom. Thanks! |
They already allow 4 cohorts and the school did nothing to accommodate that. |
| I agree with you, but that was after Term 4 was already underway. Four cohorts rule will mean that kids have to be on their devices physically present with their teachers only part of the time in the fall. |
You do realize that teachers aren’t allowed to look at kids’ phones and many are doing work via them right? So if your kid isn’t using it properly, take it away. |
Are you/were you a CARE classroom supervisor who knows different? Because 1) Deal historically did not allow students to bring phones into the classroom until this year 2) every student in those classrooms had access to a device to do their schoolwork. The students were ALLOWED to use their phones because nobody really cared what they were doing. I mean sure, yeah I could take my kids phone away so they could stare at the wall for 3 hours. The expectations of those students were so sadly low why punish kids more? Anybody you thinks that Deal has even tried to educate their students in any meaningful way gets what they deserve. |
Yes I am. |
In that case, why didn't you encourage the students under your supervision to use the DCPS devices available to them, instead of the tiny screens on their phones, to do their work? As the adult in the classroom you also had the authority to prohibit use of phones in the classroom. |
