Will DC metro be a good fit for us ideologically?

You do realize that Americans think all Canadians are weird, eh?

Maybe they are. But, part of Canadians' reputation for niceness comes from their ingrained cultural desire to avoid confrontation with people you hardly know. In a previous age, Americans would have called that "good manners."

In a place like DC, there's a certain demographic of people who are exhausting in their desire to talk about politics.

I can't Trump is a bridge to far for some people, yet a war criminal who tortured people is seen as okay or not beyond the pale."

Because it's DC. The above is within the realm of normal debate on what's over the line ( agree the torture and wire tapping was!) / irresponsible. It's not that unusual for DC I think.

But Trump and his crass cluelessness was just so awful. He was like the opposite of DC area Republicans even. Which is why he was almost universally loathed up here. If he had shut his mouth and stayed off twitter he might have been a "normal" controversial politician that some like / some hate like Bush. But his inability to be a normal functioning human being was his downfall.

Yes, we talked about Bush and were horrified here and there, but not on a daily basis.

If Trump wasn't so extremely horrible in every single way possible - or so vocal about it - it wouldn't have been so overwhelming.

Every president signs off on horrible things that would be considered crimes against humanity if our adversaries did the same things. Most don't take glee in them and tweet about them as accomplishments though

You do get thats it's actually more amoral to kill hundreds of thousands of people and torture people than to say retrograde things on Twitter though, don't you? Chumming it up with Ellen and taking up painting as a hobby doesn't make murder and torture magically disappear

While he had some doozies, Bush had fewer atrocities. And enough people still reeling from 9/11 to look the other way.

Trump was relentless with the scale & novelty of his depravity. And most of it was internally directed (vs. "them"). And just 10000% in your face 24x7.

I think we call that "doormat" here in the US.

Probably because they are embarrassed about how uninformed they are. Or don't want to reveal how amoral they really are under the covers.

Did I miss where Trump killed hundreds of thousands of civilians because he lied the US into a war to avenge Sadaam being mean to his Daddy? Seen pictures of Abu Ghriab lately? Pictures of poor Black people dying in Katrina while he puttered? You can't be serious.

The country is sliding into fascism. That tends to get people to sit up and start talking.

OP, you need to avoid most of montgomery county, Arlington county, and fairfax county. In Montgomery County-Olney, Pooleville, and Damascus might work. Avoid Silver Spring and Takoma Park. Frederick County would be a better fit for you. I would say half the people I've met there are either Trump supporters or Republicans.

Fascist parties always make a major media push to tell people things aren't that bad.
Saying others are overreacting to the fascist slide is always a major element of fascism and dictatorship.

If Republicans actually read any real history and didn't get their alternative facts from Claremont and AEI (at best, Limbaugh or Prager U at worst),
you'd know that.

What are you even talking about? This entire thread is indicative of the kind of pervasive groupthink and hyperbole that makes the DMV almost intolerable.

That's fine, I just don't want it to be rabidly politically active blue-only neighborhood. We had lived in blue cities and come from a very progressive one and I am quite liberal. I just prefer a place where there are both Biden and Trump signs at election and diversity of opinions, e.g. tolerance towards differences as I do not fall cleanly into either political party any longer. I would think DC must have political variety in the city itself and certainly in nearby burbs by the nature of what this city is about. Also we are a mixed race family.

You’ll want to move outside the beltway for sure. I think I saw two Trump signs total in Arlington. A lot more out in Loudon county. I do not consider myself ‘woke’ and I’m not even really sure what that means, but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere near any Trump signs. I’m sure there are some Republicans in my neighborhood, but I certainly don’t want to hear about it.

If you vote dem, you are definitely “woke” and are promoting wokeness whether you like it or not.

I love when clueless MAGAs use an outdated term just because some DB on FoxNews used it.

We're progressive but done with the woke-hellscape that the left has created. There are people on both sides of the aisle here. Most of our street does lean left but there's quite a few R military families.

The wokeness of the left will be our undoing. I've talked to many progressive friends who've left LA, Seattle, NYC, etc. trying to escape this nonsense. The far left seems to be pushing away the majority-middle.

FFX Co - Fairfax, Burke, Springfield, may suit you well.

And there are loads of D military families too. None of our military friends voted for Trump.
