No lottery for the magnet schools. I hope FCPS don't waste time and tax money

LAWSUIT CALLS NEW ARLINGTON SCHOOL LOTTERY UNFAIR TO WHITE CHILDREN

Several Ed a district court judges, several 4th circuit court of appeals judges who are anti affirmative action were confirmed in the last few years. The lottery system will certainly be struck. Case doesn’t even have to go to the new Supreme Court.

Cool! Is this case funded by rightwing billionaires like the Harvard case was?

It’s interesting that you would rather push conspiracy theories about the backing for the legal challenge than try and actually refute that the TJ lottery is racist towards not just Asians, but also the Black and Hispanic community.

Lottery sure feels like it is unconstitutional.

Not in a static sense, but in a dynamic sense (from what it is now).

Melanie Meren can go to hell. She defends this by noting money to pay Kendi came from each region in FCPS.

Well, schools in our region look like crap while we waste money on Kendi and an addition that isn't needed at West Potomac.

You people have NO business on a School Board.

So I went and looked up Kendi, read this and had to share:

For Kendi, “there is no such thing as a not-racist idea,” only “racist ideas and antiracist ideas.” His Manichaean outlook extends to policy. “Every policy in every institution in every community in every nation is producing or sustaining either racial inequity or equity,” Kendi proclaims, defining the former as racist policies and the latter as antiracist ones.
Every policy? That question was posed to Kendi by Vox cofounder Ezra Klein, who gave the hypothetical example of a capital-gains tax cut. Most of us think of the capital-gains tax, if we think about it at all, as a policy that is neutral as regards questions of race or racism. But given that blacks are underrepresented among stockowners, Klein asked, would it be racist to support a capital-gains tax cut? “Yes,” Kendi answered, without hesitation. And in case you planned on escaping the charge of racism by remaining agnostic on the capital-gains tax, that won’t work either, because Kendi defines a racist as anyone who supports “a racist policy through their actions or inaction.” Kendi’s goals are openly totalitarian. He proposes a Department Of Antiracism - this DOA would be tasked with “investigating” private businesses and “monitoring” the speech of public officials; it would have the power to reject any local, state, or federal policy before it’s implemented; it would be made up of “experts” who could not be fired, even by the president; and it would wield “disciplinary tools” over public officials who did not “voluntarily” change their “racist ideas”—as defined, presumably, by people like Kendi. What could possibly go wrong?

Look, I'm against the TJ Lottery too, but let's keep this civil. Go after his politics and his ideas, not him.

Wow, that's some scary stuff. Stupid, too. Regarding the capital gains tax, if blacks supposedly aren't stock owners like he says, a capital gains tax wouldn't be racist, it would be anti-racist, because it wouldn't penalize blacks.

His Dept of Antiracism would only protect blacks. Maybe Hispanics and native Americans as a byproduct. Screw the Asians. Whites, pay up for your sins. No thanks. Trump is starting to look a lot better to me now.

Soon? Do you have any idea how much damage this idiot could do before the next SB is seated at the end of 2023? We need to get the BOS to pressure the SB to fire him!

The new system will be invalidated sooner than 2023. There are many judges in Virginia and now Supreme Court justices as well ready, able and willing to strike down any use of race in admissions to selective schools or has discriminatory effect on other racial groups.
