Let’s cut to the chase and furlough teachers.

OP- I know people like you. Its the same parent that comes into my classroom demanding I give their C student child an A because you think you have some power and authority. You wouldn't last one hour in a classroom OR online teaching these kids. Do us all a favor and move to a county or district that gives the same respect to teachers as I'm sure you give your significant other, and kids; which I'm assuming is none.

Have you heard of Kahn Academy? It's really great.

It's Khan Academy, actually. Also, if you think that Khan Academy is functionally equivalent to school, then I really don't know what to say.

Actually, it's better. If the student misses a question it asks them to keep trying and points them to extra help.
Far more than public school teachers do today.
Did you know teachers don't grade individual homework? They stand in front of the class, tell the correct answers and its up to your child to grade their own work.

We don't grade homework in ES because we don't know WHO did the homework. I wouldn't give homework to my students other than to study basic facts and read if I had my choice. I do give a lot of feedback on assignments done in class. Those help me better understand my students' individual needs.

Soooo because a fraction of parents are doing the homework and denying the children the opportunity to learn, you kick that up a notch and deny ALL the students the opportunity to learn?

If i pulled that sort of nonsense at my job I would be let go.

Homework isn't really productive in ES. It can be used as a supplement to review things taught.

That's too funny! Who do you think came up with that myth? Maybe one of the lazy American educators?

Look up the top performing countries in education and then cross reference if their students have homework.
Better yet, ask the immigrant parents who's kids are kicking your kids butt in grades and test scores if their kids are doing double homework.

Hmm. I am a teacher. A tenured one at that. Go figure.

As a poster on another thread said, “I know a high horse when I see one.”
