So is MOCO just never opening?

Ugh.

There's plenty that's open in Montgomery County right now - and has been open all along. You might have to wait a bit longer to get your nails done or your hair cut.

The point is that the longer they don't go officially into phase 1 the longer it will be until childcare, camps and pools open. Which is what I am waiting for.

Actually the opposite. The longer they are shutdown down, the better contained it can be so they can stay open long enough to get to camps

You realize CT has more per capita cases and deaths than MD, and obviously is closer to the country’s primary hot spot (NY) and is opening summer camps, right?

As the tristate area starts to open up—and it is, with NJ beaches open by Memorial Day, CT opening up camps/restaurants/bars, and NYC potentially qualified to start reopening by mid-June—MoCo is going to look increasingly ridiculous.

Why? Lots of stuff is open in Montgomery County. Plus Montgomery County is coordinating with DC, Virginia, and Prince George's County.

Feel free to make that argument to Montgomery Parks and Montgomery Rec. That's who made the decision, not some random anonymous poster on DCUM.

Parks, camps and nonessential stores need to stay closed until there’s a vaccine. Even curbside pick up is too risky.

People absolutely should be calling and complaining and when the time comes voting for other candidates and putting money towards someone viable to get this fool out of office. Do we even need that level of testing? Many areas now have more testing than demand - people just aren’t asking for the tests. But yeah let’s destroy the local economy due to some nursing home deaths.

It's kind of depressing, how fast the conversation shifted from "stay home" to "time to stop staying home" once it became apparent that most covid deaths are [those people].

Actually, the data has become clearer and clearer about who this affects (hint: not young healthy people). Meanwhile, we were supposed to shut down for a short period of time to prevent hospitals being overwhelmed. Hospitals are empty and in risk of closure because they aren’t earning money. It’s quite enough. We’ve passed by any common sense.

You're overlooking an intelligent appraisal of the data. Elderly people are dying because they are in rest homes and/or hospitals where they are exposed. Watch what happens now that we have more magacovidiots out and about without masks trying to act like there is no pandemic. Just watch. We'll see more age groups affected. In Loudoun we had 18 new cases last week with 48 deaths in the county. The majority of deaths in the county are of those 70 and older although 3 in their 60s and on in their 50s also died. What you ignore pp is that more than half of the cases in the county that require hospitalization are much younger with age ranges from 11 to 50s. Keep pretending that it only affects the older generation. BTW are you anti-choice wrt women's rights?

I think it's YOU who are overlooking an intelligent appraisal of the data....In Loudoun County, which you referenced, there are 48 total deaths since the pandemic started in a county with a population of ~400,000. Of those 48 total deaths, 36 are over 80 years old. Over 60% of hospitalizations are folks over 60. All of this is easily accessible on their website: https://www.loudoun.gov/5334/COVID-19-Testing-Data
Nobody is saying it only impacts the older generation.....what we're saying is that the vast majority of the impact is to those groups, and we should focus all efforts to help protect those groups versus a one-size-fits-all policy that limits everyone.

MoCo is way behind the rest of the state, so I don’t really know what you’re talking about when you say “lots of stuff is open.” Also, if MoCo was coordinating with those other jurisdictions, then they’d have a unified plan. They don’t. They just all say they won’t reopen until various things happen. Those criteria are different across jurisdictions.

You will be waiting until May 2021.

A 15 year old girl just died in Baltimore.

I think we’re about to see this disease start hitting young people and teens very hard, as it runs out of older victims. It’s going to shift itself towards younger people who make better hosts and pass on more infection before they die.

Unless you live in CT, in which case your kid can go to a summer camp this summer.

Numbers for the last week are up in many states that have opened, so.. I don't think you're right. I think MoCo is going to look pretty smart.

Does that apply to the tri-state area? No.

Texas is up, but they have fewer restrictions than we will have for a long time. They are way beyond MD’s phase 1.

Sadly, I think you're right. Young people suddenly developing heart failure is going to change some people's minds.

There will be no camps. County ones already shut down and others will follow suit. The point of MoCo is to avoid the open-up then re-shut down after a month like will happen elsewhere. So gonna be a lot more cautious. Just sit tight for a bit.

Under certain conditions. Which are...?
