How do you think this year's high school magnet selection process ?

Correct - Hoover kid did not get into RMIB. She did not apply to Blair due to transportation issues but did apply to the Poolesville Humanities and Global ecology programs. Also, I would not expect there were any major differences in teacher recommendations so it seems like home school really did play a major factor in evaluating candidates.

They should have the same home high school based on where they live. So the difference might be their relative ranking at their middle schools. Hoover has a lot high performing students. This might reflect to teachers' recommendations.

NP. I agree that MCPS didn't use cohorts for HS magnet admissions. However, they could have capped the number of kids coming from each school or tried to spread admissions across many schools so that the majority of kids accepted to RMIB, Blair or Poolesville didn't come from a handful of middle schools.

They "could've" done a lot of things, but their website lists the real criteria. Seriously, let's not start conspiracy theories.

Has anybody been selected from the wait pool for the SMCS magnet program at Poolesville HS in this month (April)?Just wondering if there has been any movement at all since early March.

Nothing since March for Global. My child also got a being “re-examined” letter in March. Still in waitpool.

Same here. My child is holding on to a seat in a program at another school but would prefer SMCS PHS. Wish they would update us on the size of the wait pool. Of course, that is not going to happen. So, we wait and wait and wait...
