What can bring the country together?

You think all Dems have the same views? Have you been watching the debates? Have you been reading this forum? If all Dems could agree on a platform and candidate Trump would be toast.

Come on........ we all know there are exceptions.

Critical thinking is sorely lacking. People have chosen a ‘side’ and refuse to engage with viewpoints other than their own. On both sides.

Lol. Surely that is an excellent way to spend their time and energy. Lots of luck.

It is. The American people deserve to know the truth.

It’s an excellent way to put Trump back in office.

And that's the way it needs to stay until our country splits into regions, and a massive resettlement of people occurs.

Because otherwise, if that doesn't happen, it's going to a Rwanda-style airing of grievances. So let's hope we split apart before that.

We are Yugoslavia in 1991. Everything stopped working.

So. Much. This.

And we know what happened in Yugoslavia a few years afterwards.

Well, I know, because I was deployed there for two tours. But I suspect much of DCUM doesn't. They should educate themselves, and see what an actual civil war looks like in a modern Europen country. Sarajevo was as cosmopolitan a city as Boston or Portland or Denver before the war.

People who think the same exact thing won't/can't happen here are whistling past the graveyard of history.

You also had Milosevic, Tujman, Karadavic, and Mladic. The typical person was easy prey for their propaganda. Who are there US 2020 counterparts? Trump? Pompeo? And the two college dropouts, Limbaugh and Hannity?

There aren't "both sides" when it comes to accepting or promoting racism, or "alternative facts" - when Fox watchers are ready to join the real world, then a conversation can be had.

Money. Stability.

When people feel stressed about money, it’s human nature to lash out at those perceived as getting a free ride or those perceived as a threat.

“I did everything right: worked hard in school, work hard at my job, pay my taxes, etc., so why should “those people” get a free ride?”

Trump knew this anger was bubbling under the surface because he literally paid staff to listen/watch conservative news/talk shows. He built a platform on this, and it worked. Why? Because even moderates and some liberals feel stretched and stressed, making them susceptible to his manipulative talking points.

This isn’t surprising. Racism and classism aren’t unique to America. Go look at Africa and South America and Asia. When economic inequality takes hold, people lash out to protect what they have. Human nature.

And the Dems aren’t exactly victims. The Dems on the Hill has a hand in the policies that have harmed the middle class. This started in the 1970s.

It’s dangerous to believe that Trump is only supported by fox watchers. Moderates and Dems who are struggling financially have fallen prey to Trump’s nationalism.

Like Carville said this week: Dems won’t win unless they stop talking nonsense. If Dems are struggling financially, then they aren’t more concerned about others; they’re concerned about themselves. Focus on what will assist the most voters in your base. Don’t assume your base is comprised of people on welfare and immigrants.

Less means testing and more universalism.

Any program that peters out after $30, $40, or whatever is going to be looked at as welfare for the lazy by those making whatever plus $100.

Except that they are not just ‘manipulative talking points’.

When I see my tax money going to support illegal immigrants in MoCo, so much so that my kids’ schools are hiring more and more ESOL/support teachers while cutting music and art - it is frustrating.

When I see my neighborhood being taken over by illegal rentals that house these illegal immigrants, I am frustrated.

When I see the huge increase in hit and runs caused by illegal immigrant drivers who have been given drivers licenses by the Democratic leadership, I am frustrated.

You can pretend that illegal immigration is not a problem because it does not directly affect you. But it does affect some of us, and Democratic rhetoric does not provide any legitimate solutions to the issue.

Led there by racism and bigotry, yes. Because one party keeps trying to make changes for the actual financial benefit of the working class, and one party keeps talking about how immigrants have stolen everything and brown people get all the benefits and how mad white people should be about this..

You just proved my point. And lots of moderates and many liberals feel this way.

Similarly, anyone with Cadillac health insurance doesn’t want to lose their benefits so others can have universal health coverage.

And people who already paid off their student loans don’t want to see the next guy get a free pass.

Obama, Pelosi and Carville have said as much, but the Dems aren’t listening. They’re pandering to the far left on issues that actual divide the base. I think Bloomberg and Mayor Pete get this; and perhaps Klobuchar does as well.

Trump is brilliant in his approach: fan the flames, rally his base, and force the other side to go hard left to play defense...lest they suffer the fate of the purity test and circular firing squad. Bernie is the perfect example...and even Bannon said on Real Time the other night that Bernie is helping Trump. Again: brilliant politics by Trump. Sigh. When will the Dems open their eyes and play to win?

I don't even want to hear what you think of African-Americans.

This can literally be said for just about any political problem. For example, do you complain when racist policies still affect the lives of black people, or because that doesn’t affect you you don’t care?

And there’s one party that wants to hold businesses accountable for their shady practices. Which is to say that if the GOP cared about the effects of illegal immigration (they don’t, they just enjoy whipping up bigots into a frenzy), they’d impose enormous fines on businesses who hire them.

All this is to say: you’re being used.

Exhibit A is the nonsense in this thread.

"Don't see it my way? Well, you are RACIST then".

My way or the highway.... OK, highway ......... for YOU.
