What can bring the country together?

This all happening because of changes in race and immigration. There has always a pushback in American society when the rights and powers of minorities is expanded. It's demographics. The average white person is 56. The average hispanic is 12. Combine that with the collapse of traditional blue color labor markets and angry right wing propaganda we are seeing the last gasp of majority white rule (over)exerting itself. I hate to say but it won't end until the baby boomer generation fades away.

You're going based off an incorrect assumption that only white people disapprove of illegal immigration. I'm a PP and I'm not White. I'm actually an immigrant, FWIW. But I am appalled by the Democrat politicians who want to decriminalize border crossings.

Interesting.

Has illegal immigration not had any affect on your local school systems?

Illegal immigration has had a dramatic effect on local school systems in the DC Metro area.

Not in particular. It's just about money. Schools with wealthy families do well; schools with families in poverty do poorly. Immigration status really has nothing to do with it. If anything, the poor schools with more Latino kids probably do slightly better.

One thing that might matter is that, outside of Indianapolis, we don't have a very prevalent tradition of private schools. There's clearly more money in the D.C. area than in Indiana, so it's not apples-to-apples, but even the "rich" kids tend to go to a public school of some sort.

How do you feel about the Republican politicians who want to demonize those who cross the border?

One of our problems is that we're not having a very rational conversation about what level of wrongdoing this ought to be considered. It's not nothing, but it's not rape, robbery, or murder either. Maybe on the level of tax fraud?

Most common, not average. Know your math terms.

People go to jail for tax fraud. I'd just deport them. I'd let them take with them any money they accumulated while in the US

A Fairfax County school system employee told the board at one of their work sessions that the ELL students are overwhelming the system.

Illegal immigration hurts African Americans more than any other demographic. Democrats don't care.

Black people aren't dumb. They vote in the neighborhood of 90% for Democrats for a reason. Democrats sure aren't perfect, but Republican policies hurt them, and Republican voters look down on them.

Black people's kindness leads to putting other groups above themselves. See the black leaders in Mississippi who raged against an ICE raid that resulted in employment for African Americans, or the rep from Lowndes county fussing about DACA while her own constituents live with open sewage and hookworm.

She barely has any Latinos in her district as I recall. She only made some gestures when ADOS called her out on Twitter.

There is a significant and growing number of African Americans who are tired of the Democratic party's behavior. Most will vote down ballot Democrat but will not vote blue at the top of the ticket if they don't get it together.

We look the other way when it results in low wages, poor working conditions and increased human trafficking, etc.

And Democrats want to call that ‘humane’?

Actually, it’s insane. And needs to end.

We got here because corporations and family businesses like the Trump organization prefer to hire illegal immigrants. Also Republicans kill any legislation to increase wages or implement e-verify.

AND because Democrats would like to increase their voter base by encouraging more illegal immigration. And, not aggravate their wealthy donors by cracking down on illegal immigration.

And, because Democrats have pushed to normalize illegal immigration. Democrats continue to push for more free services for illegal immigrants to incentivize them to risk their lives to come here.

Let's be honest.

Bingo. Thank you for your honesty. It’s refreshing.

+1
Our prisons are already too full - deport them. No need to pay for their legal/court fees. Just a bus ride home.

Oh my gawd the level of stupidity in your post. Illegal immigration is not a minority issue, it is a national sovernity, economic, and safety issue. I am Asian, a first generation immigrant, and I am against illegal immigration regardless of where it is coming form.

And I am Gen X.

Here's a show with African-Americans explaining the impact of illegal immigration. The host used to work for a Dem politician (Barbara Boxer I believe) . First part of the show is the stats and the second part people call in with their experiences.

I put the blame on right wing radio and entertainment outlets like Fox News, Breitbart, Glenn Beck, and Alex Jones. The entertainment they push is anger and outrage, bigotry and sexism. I watched my dad get sucked into that world but he died in 2013. Folks are reeling in this country due to huge economic shifts that are occurring in economic/labor market, much like the industrial revolution. If you think back to that time in history and the profound changes that occurred, it makes sense.

The only thing that is going to change is the younger generations will be able to cope more with the new economic/labor environment and the ones in the thick of the change will die off.

So much resonates here. Fortunately, my dad was able to listen to that stuff (he could only get AM radio at night and would listen to fall asleep), yet say, "who believes that nonsense?" I sometimes wonder if he is the only elderly white male who came out unscathed from the Fox News assault on a generation of people.

Regrettably, many white guys I know have not been as fortunate. Regardless of social class, they cling to the guns and vitriol of Fox News and spout talking points verbatim. Some of the white women I know from HS think similarly, but many of them as well as my classmates who are African-American are clearly far more discerning in their media literacy. They don't take the Fox bait nor the less prevalent but still present left-wing conspiracies. I can only conclude that there are egos are more fragile in the fallout of the SES dislocation over the last 30 years while many of the rest of us already know hard times and have faith that there will be better ones.
