1. If we get universal background checks in all the places not participating in this gimmick that would be a big gain

2. Commonwealth can cut funding to these places. Most of them rely heavily on Commonwealth funding, esp for schools.

Wait what? You'd deprive Virginia school students of right to Virginia education state funding (derived mainly from Virginia citizen taxes) as a means to defray our constitutional rights to bear arms? Teach our kids to reason, not to be totalitarian which is not accepted in the USA.

Constitution of United States of America 1789 (rev. 1992) Article 5

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The counties around DC supply most of the tax revenue that gets used to educate the rest of the state. If they aren't willing to give up their assault weapons, then we shouldn't be paying to educate their kids.

Punish the lower income youth?

Clearly they value guns more than their children, so yes, I'm fine with that.

It's a false choice. There is no defense against "If you love children, X" because the alternative is "You hate children." The world is more than a black and white binary choice. I value my rights and love children. There is no conflict in this position.

Except your fetish is used to murder classrooms full of our children. I don’t give a damn about your rights. You don’t have a right to a gun.

You are greatly mistaken.

Saw two guys carrying at the Italian store in Westover. Both were concealed, but they were printing pretty clearly.

Every gun started out as a legal gun before it became an illegal one. There is no difference between the two, a gun is a gun. Period. Therefore we have to get rid of ALL of them. The fact that simple logic like this is beyond you people, or you’re simply unwilling to acknowledge this, shows the depths of your depravity. Ultimately, you’re going to have two choices ahead of you, and I don’t really care which you choose: you can give your guns to the police to dispose of, OR, you will be a criminal and will eventually be reported by someone, and will either go to jail for a very, very long time, or be killed in a confrontation with law enforcement. Your choice. Again, I don’t care which, as long as either case happens.

I really hope Northan, Herring and the General Assembly embrace the mandate they’ve been handed by voters, because it represents a truly unique opportunity to show the country how proceed against guns with real leadership, backed up by voters who swung the balance of power with common sense gun safety laws in mind. A very, very small minority of Virginians own the guns, and the rest of Virginia is sick and tired of being held hostage by them. I hope along with banning repeating or automatic guns and assault weapons and guns that use magazine clips or any other system that allows a gun to fire more than once without some kind of lengthy reloading procedure, that there will also be a law component to allow the public to report gun criminals who are hoarding banned weapons. There should be a large reward incentive offered for anonymously turning in people with banned guns, paid for with heavy fines levied on gun criminals. Once gun hoarders realize it’s only a matter of time before someone who knows them reports them, many will voluntarily surrender peacefully. This would go a long ways to reducing the number of law enforcement raids needed to seize guns from scofflaws.

You don’t sound like a particularly bright person, but I hope you are at least smart enough to realize that you simply can’t win this. The days of people having guns are over.

There you go again wishing for more violence.

If you refuse to disarm, you have become a criminal. An armed criminal. And you need to be dealt with harshly. Violently, if necessary, because that will set an example for others, which will hopefully reduce the need for such violence in the future.

You can stop this. Just give up your guns. That’s all it takes to prevent it.

Okay you are starting to sound like a troll, no liberal person would think this way.

Criminals need to be dealt with violently to set an example? We already have a broken criminal justice system that unfairly targets people of color and lower income whites. Please tell me you aren't serious. Or just come out and tell us which extremist group you belong to. New Nazi Party? ANTIFA? Or just a racist?

AG Herring just sent out a memo that says these 2A resolutions are crap

If you are confident that SCOTUS will strike down the laws proposed for Virginia, then you probably don't want your county bothering with this 2A sanctuary crap.

The discussion of Va taking action against such counties only matters if the Va law is upheld.

This thread is moot. The governor last week already said there will be no confiscation. So drop the totalitarian fantasies because that’s all they will ever be.

We’ll see what gets watered down next. My guess is the “assault” weapons ban. The Dem majority isn’t big enough to sustain it. This is most likely to end with background checks and some feel-good measures.

There are two insurmountable problems with gun confiscation and bans. The first is the federal and state constitutions. The second is reality— with 400 million plus *known* guns in civilian hands, the genie is out of the bottle and not going back in. You can stamp your feet and say “the days of owning guns are over,” but that’s just not true.

Take solace in the fact that guns kill far fewer people than cars, water, alcohol, fists, knives, and abortion.

They ARE crap. Meaningless, without any force of law. And Virginia State Police will happily arrest anyone in the state once they violate any of the new laws that get passed this session. Even if you're in a sanctuary county. Sorry ammosexuals, all your posturing is meaningless. Won't protect you from us!!! Woot!!!

Yeah, SB16 as currently written is DOA. Hopefully we get universal background checks and some more funding for mental health. The thread is fairly moot, but it is good to see the true colors of some of these anti gun nuts and their fantasies for violence.

Jesus, Im glad you don't own any firearms. You sound like a danger to society.

You think I’M a danger to society?!? What kind of society do you want??? Because it’s clearly not one that a civilized person would recognize. You want anarchy. I want an orderly civilization where no one has the ability to murder someone else with a gun over the most petty disputes. I think the only the police and army should have guns, and no one else. And you call me at threat? That’s rich. You’re a loon.

There once was a movie made about an orderly civilization where only the military and police had guns!

It was called “Schindler’s List”

(And yes, you are a threat!)

You are not a criminal, because such laws are unconstitutional and a violation of human rights. Resisting such laws, using whatever measures, is both legal
and moral. I’m sorry you have such issues with the traditional rights of Americans, but they are not up for debate.

I have been reading this thread often and have full support for police crackdown on gun people when new laws become the law. All the time being scared the white man behind me at the coffee store is to go crazy to kill everyone in the place. They need to make for having guns like the same murder with life long sentences. You got the gun you get 20 or life. I came here from a country being very high with crimes where no one has the guns if people did they have war with one and the other because each small argument.

Lol nice try. I'm not sure if your country has or knows what statistics are, but I suggest you learn some before spouting your shit. Racist.

Gee, came here for the jobs and lower taxes? Now that you showed us what rednecks we are and turned us into where you left, where next?

What’s so funny is all the right wing people threatening civil war seem to think liberals don’t own guns.

Well, according to a Pew Research study, 41% of conservatives reported owning guns and 23% of liberals reporting owning guns, so the assumption is not totally off base.

This thread has clearly illustrates how many people never received, flunked, or forgot basic American civics.

Sad. Very sad.
