Anyone else resisting frozen and other princess stuff?

On a side note though, I find Dora far more annoying than Frozen... we avoid that show, too.

Dp. You got to remember these shows are not made for you. Can they be annoying? Of course. But each age has their own shows to watch. With moderation there is nothing wrong with Dora or Frozen. Same way you like watching sports or the Crown.

Dont try to control every aspect of your kids' lives!

My daughter still likes Frozen but we're branching out into other things. One series we've gotten into during the quarantine was "the princess in black" series by Shannon Hale. It's about a princess who moonlights as a superhero who fights monsters. It's an early chapter book so each chapter is maybe two pages long and she loves reading them.

yeah I've tried to stick with PBS shows because I find them to be a little less insipid

Please don’t do this. My mom did and it was super annoying and had zero benefit or change over my life.

Why?? Modern princesses are kick ass awesome! We don't let the kids watch the old Disney damsel in distress movies, and we talk about how characters in fairy tales make bad decisions, but Elsa, Anna, Rapunzel, , etc are awesome characters!

So buy her a Jasmine or Tiana costume.

Or moana! Or Merida from brave. Or Mulan.

OP we watched it once and that was it bc I didn’t want my kid left out from games and play at school. Heaven help me we do not wear princess costumes or have frozen toys.

Have you even seen Frozen 2? Anna is a total dorky doofus - there is nothing sexy about her!

Yes!! I just totally blanked on those characters, and I'm the mom of a Moana lover!

I think all the backlash is coming from women who remember the princesses of our youth who were just awful, but aren't familiar with the new generation of Disney movie characters (not all of them are princesses, by the way, and not all of them have frilly costumes). Once I realized that, I was fine.

Also, to the black hair/brown eyes/brown skin poster -- Disney's newest tv show is about an Indian girl who is the "royal detective" and it's all South Asian cast and makes an effort to use real South Asian names and reference Indian culture, which is pretty amazing for ANY show, not just Disney.
