Trump can be obsessive on certain topics that pertain to his ego but is otherwise a quitter. He's quit many things. I can see senior members of the GOP coming together to flatter him into resigning, by explaining that it's the BEST way out for his image. Admit no guilt. Fight SDNY charges in court. At this point, with his narcissism, I believe he'd much rather face a lengthy court process which he may maneuver out of relatively unscathed, than be the FIRST PRESIDENT TO BE IMPEACHED AND REMOVED FROM OFFICE. Get it? Psychology of Trump. |
Maybe him and Melania will pull an Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos and flee the country in the dead of night. |
As long as the US can freeze his assets, I would be okay with that. He can go live in Siberia. |
"" LOL. Leaving nothing behind except shoes...lots of shoes. |
My guess....He will fake a medical issue and resign. Or he will resign claiming the Dems are destroying the country and his resignation is an act of martyrdom to save the US. Behind the scenes he will cut a deal to help keep himself and his sketchy kids out of prison. |
House REPUBLICAN Marc Amodei (R-NV02) announced he supports the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump
BUT: "[Amodei] is withholding judgment on whether Trump has crossed the legal line." https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/amodei-on-trump-impeachment-inquiry-lets-put-it-through-the-process-and-see-what-happens |
He can't cut a deal with the NY AG. |
Wow. I don't know anything about this guy and assume that any Republicans coming out in favor of the inquiry are in swing districts. Even so, if more of them do, it'll provide cover for others. |
Jeff Flake (NPR, 3pm hour), said that many Republicans feared Trump but disapproved of him, and confirmed that at least 35 Senators would vote to remove him from office if it was all done confidentially. He advised Democrats to stick to a narrow focus on Ukraine in order to maximize their chances with the Senate. |
He won 58-42, but notably he’s on the retirement watch lists. |
You sure? https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/463367-kasich-warns-democrats-on-impeachment-its-not-a-light-matter |
Republicans are terrified that they will not be able to control how far the damage will spread. They generally believe that if Warren is the nominee then Trump can win or if Warren wins. Warren has been demonized on the alr right as their 2nd poster child of an evil woman blah blah blah. They think that she is like Hillary. (I think they are wrong on this. Warren is a good campaigner and comes across as authentic to working class voters. The conspiracy and constant trashing of HRC worked because she came off as cold and calculating.) Regardless, they are hoping that Warren wins and convinced that if Biden gets the nomination then Trump is going down hard and they will probably lose the senate and house.
One scenario is to honestly impeach Trump and stop letting him tar them with the mainstream voters. This obviously doesn't fly with a Nunes hello type but for others they'll see it as a chance to get out from under Trump's stain. If they nominated Kaisch or someone else then they might have a chance against Biden. It will be a difficult campaign though as the R nominee would need to constantly answer questions on why he didn't do more to stop Trump and would need to keep disavowing many of Trump's racist statements and positions that turned off the mainstream. This would in turn piss off the Trumpsters who like Trump because of his racist positions. |
Profiles in courage, every one of them |
“For Trump to be removed, then, it won’t be enough for his party’s leaders to decide that they’d be better off without him. A large majority of the public will have to decide that they can’t stand another minute of him — and then GOP leaders will have to go to war with their own president, who will hunker down in the Oval Office with his shrinking band of supporters.
Contra to the naysayers, I think it’s possible this will happen. I think it might be better for the country, and even the Republican Party, if it did. But I do agree with them on one point: It sure won’t be easy.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/09/27/heres-what-needs-happen-republicans-get-board-with-impeachment/ |
How much more "poor judgement" by Trump does this country have to take?
