+1. Preschool teacher here. Yes, we all know who bathes daily and who doesn’t.

-1. Also a preschool teacher and while yes some kids smell, that doesn’t mean the good smelling kids bathe daily. You really have no clue.

Another preschool/kindergarten teacher. We absolutely know. And we do judge parents who can’t be bothered to bathe their kids daily.
It’s just gross.

I really don't give one crap what you think!
My 3 kids have never bathed more than every other day except in summer (now as pre-teen athletes) and they're now in late elementary and middle school. They have a TON of friends and get invited to other people's houses many times a week.
They are straight A students and excellent athletes.

Why should I care that they don't bathe daily in the winter? It is not affecting their social lives one iota. They get more playdates, texts, sleepover requests, etc. than they know what to do with.

What does having straight As and being excellent athletes have anything to do with it? Bottom line is it’s gross to not bathe or shower daily. I would think you’d especially want them showering or bathing after practice, them being all star athletes.

The point is that if it is so 'gross,' then it would likely turn others off or somehow impact their life in other ways. Absent any impacts, who cares? I shower at inconsistent intervals, sometimes every few days. I am very successful at work in a people oriented job, have never had problems romantically, and am generally successful in life, knock on wood. So obviously it's not something to give two hoots about. I don't care how much you shower, but I do care about others being such judgy mcjudgers about those of us who take a different approach. Not gross, just different.

Probably they’re too kind to say anything. Do you go up to people and say, “Hey you stink? Please shower?” No, but you certainly notice it. Gross.

Maybe, but if it doesn't impact one's life in any way, still have tons of friends, successful at work, hot husband, then does it matter? It obviously isn't bad enough to drive people away.

People who are religious about bathing every day are probably the obsessive hand sanitizers. But I personally don't think it's a bad thing to smell like a person occasionally and let your body do it's job, rather than scrubbing off everything natural and then replacing it with lotions, which are just man made chemicals. And please, it's laughable to say a body is 'unsanitary' because it hasn't been washed in 24 hours. Really?

My kids shower at least one a day as do my DH and I. I wash my hands with soap 10-15 times a day after using the bathroom and food prep and get after my kids to wash their hands as well. We rarely get ill.

Nope, you don’t. Hate to burst your weird bubble. I have non sweaty non stinky little girls who bathe 2-3x a week. You have no idea. I would put them in a lineup with 100 kids and you would never pick them out.

Mothers can’t smell their own children. Ask a friend who swears to be honest with you. Our babysitter told us DD smelled after she missed her bath one night.

I can guarantee you I can smell my own children when they stink. What the what?!?!

And...which do you think is responsible for you not getting sick? I’lll give you a clue. It’s not daily baths.

I notice stinky hair within a couple feet. The parents of these stinkers probably have gone nose blind to the smell coming off the kids. Maybe the parents are filthy too.

If you keep your family clean your house will be cleaner too, less bodily oils and dirt on walls, carpets, furniture. Clean up your act people!

We are not getting sick because all of the germs are on your family, the Stinkertons.

Science must not be your thing?
Seriously use some common sense and keep the dirty areas - crotch, armpits and hands - clean. The rest of the areas you are doing more damage to their skin by stripping the oils and then applying a bunch of chemicals in lotion if they didn’t even need a bath.
Your kids immune systems will suffer if you insist on sanitizing everything because you think it’s “gross”.

There are guidelines by the dermatologists and pediatricians (but unfortunately not the judgey teachers of the world)

DH and I shower every day but my kids don't. We certainly don't wash hands 10-15 times per day. After the bathroom, before food prep, after walking dog, that's it. None of us get sick very often either. My kids didn't get sick much even while in day care. We do all get the flu shot.

Please reread the original post that this thread is about. It specifically says the kids have not been outside.

Kids get sweaty inside too. Teach them some better hygiene before someone else tells them they got a problem.

Mom, are at least changing their clothes daily? Brushing teeth a couple times a day?
Anonymous
Yes, every single day. She is 2 and during the summer we go to pool and put on sunscreen. Even on days we don't go to pool, we put on sunscreen. That and it's part of bedtime routine, one parent bathes and reads books while other cleans up from dinner

Washing hands is, I think, the key to good health. I wash my hands before using toilet as well as after with hot water and soap. I bet I wash my hands more than doctors and I have had one cold in the past 20 years. My Dh and children do the same and rarely are sick.

In summer we shower every day. Sometimes, in winter, depending on what I am doing, I may shower every other day just because my skin gets so dry.
