Handmaid's Tale Season 3

Wow. Wtf is Serena doing?

I’m finding this season to be a little rough story/pacing-wise.

She probably had no choice. If she were smart she would have stayed in Canada.

Seriously. I know they needed to add a twist but thus seems ridiculous after all she has done.

Serena is not a good person! She held a woman down to be repeatedly raped just so she could have a baby of her own. Perhaps she let the baby go in a moment of clarity brought on by the fact that her own husband had her finger cut off, but now that she feels like she’s in control again it’s all about what she wants. She can’t be trusted.

This is bugging me ... why didn't June tell Luke on the tape where Hannah is? Her Gilead name, her kidnappers' names (they're not her parents, I don't care), where her school would be>

I agree. It's discombobulating.

Showing my age here, but my problem with the tape thing is this -- when you made a mix tape, it took some effort, so you would break the square tab on the top so it couldn't be recorded over. June would have had to cover that hole with tape to be able to record again.

Hahahahaha. That’s awesome that you thought of that.

PP. I had no idea! You learn something new every day.

I agree that this is my favorite episode of the season.

When Serena got home from seeing Nicole, I thought she told the commander that now it's over. But then she let him convince her to try harder to get the baby back? Given that the Canadians know what's going on with Gilead, it's hard to believe that they would fall for such an appeal. I read a review that compared this story line with Elian Gonzalez, but I don't think it's a good parallel, given that everyone knows how babies are conceived in Gilead.

I wondered the same thing. That would be one of the most important bits of info I'd want to convey.

What would Luke do with that information? Neither he nor the Canadian authorities will go get her. June clearly doesn't think she'll ever escape Gilead, so she was focused on saying goodbye to Luke.

I think the Elian Gonzalez reference was just to give an idea of what the hoopla over an international custody dispute might look like.

I also suspect that Serena does not really want Nichole/Holly back in Gilead, Fred is doing whatever Serena wants now to make amends, and the appeal is part of a larger effort to put an end to Gilead. Just my suspicion.

I’m sure June does NOT want Luke to come and try to find Hannah. That would be a suicide mission that he might undertake out of false hope.
