I moved to the burbs because I dislike the city (I like to visit--don't want to live there) AND because I will get more for my money in terms of housing. I'm sure there are plenty of other people like me.

I live in the city. My friends live in burbs.
What I envy them:
School pyramid: 10/10/8
Twice as big house as ours
Five times the size of the lot
Widelife - deer coming to their backyard
Fantastic air
Quiet
Two Whole Foods stores within ten minutes drive
Three Harris Teether within ten minutes drive
Community College 15 minutes away for taking fun pottery, art and other classes
Tons of nature everywhere
Tons of parks everywehre, big real parks, not tinny tinny swatches with one swing on them
Hiking trails nearby
Hop and drive for a joy ride away from civilsation on a whim, use that Porsh or Ferrari yeah Baby!
Drive to work 15 minutes
Never stuck in traffic
Bed Bath Beyond, two stores stone throw away,
Home Depot, Lowes five minute drive
Three community centers with tons of activities for kids
Parks full of people who are friendly and down to earth
Community festivals, Halloween, October Fest, Movies on the lawn.. all the time , everywhre nearby.
Town Centers and urban centers with tons of great restauratns and businesses that are high end and perfect in many ways
Things to do for kids, outside trains, tennis lessons, swimming clubs, swimm centers, tennis clubs karate classes
Driving kids around is easy because nothing is further then 10 minutes away from ballet to karate to art to jazzdance to zumba to french to chinese to cooking clasess

yeah.. I feel like that city mosue who went to vist her country friend my dear. I do come back home but I feel that real life is not int he city.

Living in DC and proximity because you like it is like buying a cow because you drink milk. Smart people live in burbs and get more use of the city life then you because you eventually get bored with it and don't use the perks that attracted you there in the first place. How many times do you t hink an average Parisian goes up the Eiffel Tower. Again, the suburbanites have more fun visiting the city on the weekend then living there and suffering all week long.

yeah but it's in gaithersburg

Another racist. You voted for Trump, right? They look gorgeous from the outside too! Look at new home prices in Urbana, but that is probably ok since Urbana is more white?

For crying out loud, there are reasons beyond racism that people might not want to live in Gaithersburg. It is far from DC and jobs in DC and Tysons/NoVa for that matter. It is similarly far from most of the attractions that make DC unique and exciting. There aren't many cultural attractions, highly regarded restaurants, or other things that make you say 'wow, I really want to be in Gaithersburg.'

Sorry, if we aren't all as excited about Crown and Rio as you are.

I assume most of these 'why would anyone not want to live in DC' posters like you are transplants to the area so you are all pressed to be in D.C. I work in DC, live in MD, and would love a job in MD.

You are helping prove my point. You said you would love a job in MD. The problem is that most jobs aren't in MD. You have decided you are willing to accept the longer commute. Many people aren't and being unwilling to have the longer commute doesn't make you racist.

And I never said I would only live in DC. In fact, I now live in MD, just much closer in than Gaithersburg.

Then why is 270 and 495 always so terrible? Where are these ppl going and coming from if not the suburbs?

The truth is most ppl commute and most ppl move to the suburbs bc you get more for your money. While you might hate driving, 270 in the morning says many, many ppl are willing to deal with the commute.

Precisely, you get more for your $ by going further out. That is exactly why people are puzzled town homes in Gaithersburg are being listed for $1.5M.

No they move out of the city because they hate the city.

How is that in any way responsive to the prior post?

The PP said people move to the burgs for cheaper housing. That is not true.

It absolutely is true for many people, but that's still not what PP said. The PP was simply agreeing with a prior poster saying you get more for your money further out. That is simply an objective fact and would remain fact even if all people in the further burbs were there because they prefer it and not because it is cheaper. People who want to be in the outer burbs pay get the same advantage of cheaper housing as those who choose them because of the cheaper housing.

It says... "The truth is most ppl commute and most ppl move to the suburbs bc you get more for your money"

I assume bc, means because.

Also, most people do not commute and most people do not move to the burbs BC you get more for your money.

Most people live in the burbs BC, they hate city life, smog, traffic, etc.

We were referring to different prior posts. I was referring to the most recent post you replied to which simply said you get more for your money. I take it you were referring to the post before that where someone did say that is why (or the "because") people move further out. Fair enough.

As for the substantive point, I think you are underestimating the # of people who move further out, at least in significant part, because it is cheaper.

I think you are significantly underestimating how many people move from other location in the US and are horrified by the city. You act like every single being is spawned in the city and then moves from there kicking and screaming due to housing costs.

That's not remotely what I said or implied, but there is no point going back and forth further.

The irony is that it is really a discussion between outer suburbs v places closer in, whether dc or inner suburbs.

Once someone is a city bug, then they will never complaint that it sucks, only after they move to burbs. Till then they will argue to pieces..

While in the meantime unsuspected suburbanites.. live their lives according to the imagination of the modern city dwellers who have absolutely NO idea how the burbs look or feel like because frankly they never bother to visit.

Honestly if you live in the places like DC, Bethesda, ChCh and NEVER visited places like Crown, how the heck you can know what you are talking about? Because if I have been to Bethesda and lived in Bethesda then I know how it looks and feels like and I also go there occasionally so I have a say. It is really funny how many people have an opinion about places they have never seen. Science people. Science. You need to do the research first before you make assumptions or post results. Go make that trip and then I want to hear from you.

idk friend i think possibly you should move because that is a really long list to make of things you like about your friends house and honestly a lot of dedication to time all the drives and throw stones at the BB&B

ok well we were talking about bunnies. you can buy a cow at the fair but it probably won't fit in your car, they won't deliver it, and I believe it's technically a steer or something. heifer? anyway.
