Wow. You allowed your child to rummage through your host's kitchen w/o express permission from the host to do so? That's pretty bad .

+1. That is a HUGE no-no. Even if it is your own parents or siblings (or DH equivalent), but especially if it is anyone more removed than that.

No, it’s not. My guests are offered free reign to the kitchen and pantry. I make sure to stock up on things I know my guests like. I want everyone to feel at home.

It’s one thing if the hosts offer but, given they got upset, OP’s hosts obviously did not. Her 10-year-old’s manners are atrocious (even for a 10 yo), as is OP’s parenting. It is beyond absurd that s/he seems to think that it is the hosts who are in the wrong here!

Not on TG but my good piece of meat was stolen by some 4 legged bustard when I left it outside overnight in February, because the fridge was full.
This piece of meat was meant to be a roast for a romantic dinner.
I hope the thief choked on it. Dinner did not happen for some other reasons but because of the meat too. Because of the comments about the meat to be exact.
"What did you think is going to happen?'' Idiot.
