+1. I get your point about other countries playing on crap but it's expectations. If we HAD to play on crap fields, we would, but we don't. We pay for quality games on quality fields. If they end up providing CRAP, they're wrong. It's not about princes and princesses. |
Exactly. I mean, just look at France, who won last summer's World Cup. Their PRO teams play on complete crap fields. Every time I watch PSG play on their home field, I feel sorry for Mbappe and Neymar. I can only imagine the angry posts from their parents on ParisUrbanMom's soccer blog. I bet they are livid that their kids have to play on such dangerous fields while being paid millions of dollars to play soccer. This is exactly why US soccer sucks and will never be good (at least on the men's side, since your argument falls apart on the women's side). Thank God my little prince and princess have the privilege to play their games on fields the caliber of Summer Hill and Muldoons. I wish I could pay BSC more for the privilege . . . |
You are a complete idiot. PSG pays millions to Mbappe to play on those crappy fields. We, on the other hand, have to pay BSC for our kids to play on those crappy fields. What don’t you understand? |
Exactly. If my kid is being paid millions while risking injury, that's very different. I'm not thinking of how France is doing on the world stage as I'm taking my kid to urgent care for his injury (which happened to us a few years ago at Muldoons). |
Not the PP, but both of you need to drink another cup of coffee and get your sarcasm detectors out, as you badly missed the point of the prior post. You also may want to watch a PSG game, since you have no idea that they play on incredibly nice fields, just like the other pro teams in France (and England, Germany, Spain and the other top soccer countries that the original "this is what is wrong with US soccer" poster missed). |
You are assuming the PP is being sarcastic and not an idiotic BSC-paying fool or BSC employee. |
Over-under on games being canceled this weekend at Muldoons? |
That this is even being asked demonstrates the greedy, selfish nature of Bethesda. |
Foolish for spending tons of money on soccer too. All you need for soccer is a ball and enough players. Its ridiculous that it would cost $1000s for kids to play soccer. Again, this attitude is why America will always suck at soccer. So focused on stupid things and not development as players. |
For the most part, kids in other countries living in urban areas play on concrete, asphalt, or other hard surfaces.
If they do have a dirt area, it has been packed down very hard from constant use and forget about playing on manicured grass. Only for people with $. |
I'm talking about underdeveloped / less well-off areas. |
Yeah, all this money spent to play on pristine fields for tournaments hosted by Bethseda and still don't produce players that can compete on the world stage!
BUT THE FIELDS!!! |
That is easy to say sure, but how would you explain the success of our women's side? Those teams were developed in a pay to play environment. Notwithstanding that, the environment is what it is. One cannot just forgo playing in our system because it costs too much. There simply aren't enough players playing in the alleys and mudpit fields to develop well here. and finally, why are you so bitter? |
PP here. My post was intended to drip with sarcasm. I would have thought that was obvious to anyone with any reading comprehension skills (or any soccer IQ for that matter; I mean, how could anyone think that PSG, one of the richest professional teams in the world and a team that employs an all-star lineup, would play their games on a crappy field?). Sorry that I forgot my audience, and did not make it more obvious for you. With that said, this thread should not go down the rabbit holes of "this is what is wrong with US soccer," "pay-to-play" or "where kids in other countries play soccer." The point of this thread was to discuss BSC's poor handling of the girls tournament last weekend, at least in certain age groups, in part in the hopes that (a) BSC would not make the same mistakes this weekend and (b) BSC would address some of these issues in future years, starting with the 2019 Premier Cup. |
The world competition is not the same for women and men. Our system is what we make it. Its a self-serving one that is centered on self-aggrandizement of parents. I'm not bitter. Just frustrated with the current environment. US soccer is not making any moves ahead and we have parents of potential future players complaining about field conditions. It sounds foolish. And my DC played in the tournament this weekend - we are not associated with Bethesda in any way. We had a terrible ref but that is my only complaint. |
