That is a dick thing to say |
Why would the ruin a far away school when they can just leave the problem area where it is? I agree the the University corridor is a burden on it's local schools but what did you think would happen by moving so close? Don't lock your car doors, they will just break your windows FYI |

People get a grip - Kennedy is in Silver Spring not a third world country. Its part of the DCC. You don't need a passport and armed escort to go there. The crime stats are no worse around Kennedy than they are around Eastern or Blair. Yes, there are more poor kids there. Yes, there has been white flight. Yes, the overall school scores are low. This is exactly why moving the Blair SMACs and CAP magnet up there is a good thing. Its the only option to keep Kennedy from being too poor and bring some balance to the school.
There are some very nice, affordable houses with nice lots in the Kennedy cluster. This area could really turn around with the magnet move. |
You do realize that this is just a rumor. There is no actual magnet move planned currently. It is a bit early to announce real estate trends. |
It's actually not even a rumor. There is no chance this is going to happen. It is simply the fantasy of a parent with severe magnet envy. |
There's not even a hypothetical magnet move. Somebody is making stuff up on DCUM, and I don't know what for. |
Applications to Blair are due very soon and I think the OP is hoping the rumor might deter some families from applying. There is usually some kind of scaremongering thread every year at this time- usually about something that is easily refuted by Blair posters (fights etc). This might be a twist on a familiar strategy |
Most families don't consider magnet programs that are too far (i.e. in time more than miles around DC) away or bad logistics for their family (i.e. bus stop at 6am, returning at 6pm). So of course physically moving one of the main HS magnet programs would affect many families who are in or who even turned down the program. If anything MCPS should be enlarging its CES and magnet offerings given how much the student body had grown in size since originally rolled out decades ago. 160,000 students now and what, 1,200 HS magnet spots only? |
| nothing happens fast in MCPS so don't bother. your kid will be in college before you know what's true or not. |
