Can't get this off my mind. Hoping your family is managing well despite the circumstances.

No updates??

OP here. I am sorry I never updated.

My dad survived and is officially off hospice. It's pretty remarkable. We were told multiple times by multiple doctors that he had days/weeks to live. Most of the credit goes to my Mom who really never slowed down in being his caretaker. Anyway, the latest scan showed that the lesion in his liver is 100% healed.

Coincidentally, one of his best friends from school was also in the hospital and hospice at the same time as my Dad and he's officially off hospice too. They all went out to dinner the other night.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in with kind words!

Yes, it really is amazing. He's healthier now than I've seen him in years. Funny story - when he was in hospice he was refusing to eat at all (except for a few spoons of applesauce with his pills crushed in them). We all came over to watch his college football team play - his hospice bed was downstairs in the living room right up near my parents' TV. As we all settled in to watch the game he said "this is just like being in the stadium" and I, jokingly, said, "yes, we have everything except the hotdogs". He perked up and said, "We have hotdogs?". Everyone stopped talking and looked at him - I asked him, "are you serious? Do you really want a hotdog?" and he said he would. Of course we didn't have any in the house, so one of my brothers sped over to 7-11 and brought one home. My Dad took two bites and that was enough, BUT it was a turning point. The next day he ate a few more bites and slowly his appetite started to come back. Now that he's off all the antibiotics and he's got a fairly clean bill of health (of course he still has a history of stroke, etc), his appetite is good, he's got good energy, he's sleeping well and he's walking without a walker.

This made me grin ear to ear. Your dad sounds like quite a character and I’m just so glad that he’s doing well and you all are enjoying one another’s company this holiday season best wishes for continued good health and good humor!!
