Montgomery County, please give Elrich a chance. Don't let Floreen fool you.

If he has that kind of support in a place like that, he may really pull it off.

I think he pays people to put up those signs. Kind of disturbing, but why would he have particular targeted supports on highway exits, coincidentally?

Uh, these aren't signs stuck on public right-of-ways and highway medians, these are all signs that are in people's YARDS. These homes in this neighborhood are all $800K and up. They don't need to rent yard space to Robin Ficker so he can put a sign there for $20 a week.

This.

To Hell with both of them. At least with Ficker, I KNOW my taxes aren't going up as much, and we won't be paying for lawyers for people here illegally to fight their deportation for being here illegally.

Ficker it is.

Wow.

A message needs to be sent ASAP. The county needs to save itself or continue to decline.

AND THIS IS HOW WE GOT THE CURRENT PREZ. VOTING IS NOT FOR "SENDING A MESSAGE" - we are stuck with whomever we vote in office, so please vote for whomever you think will do the best job, not the person you think is thumbing your nose at the establishment.

Nope. Sometimes a nose DOES indeed have to be thumbed at the establishment. Because the establishment doesn't give a sh!t about me, except to squeeze a little more money out me every year. Beyond that, that don't care whether I live or die.

So every now and then, a human hand grenade needs to be thrown into their cozy little cabal. And Ficker is that hand grenade. And I hope he blows the walls out.

It’s true. The county is a mess- we had a chance to put in someone good and all we have are two back slapping spending without thinking bankrupting our hard working citizens to flatter developers and CASA friends sloths to choose from. It’s pathetic.

Oh, I forgot ‘the people of Potomac’. Floreen and Elrich are here to ‘keep development, no matter how useful’ (ie: schools) out of Potomac! Yeah, exciting!!! Carrots for the uber rich while milking the middle class dry and paving over their neighborhoods!!!

Floreen is doing this, not Elrich.
Again, the council sucks, but Elrich was always the 1 in the 8 to 1 vote.

Elrich did it too - it’s literally a reason he got elected. He went on the ‘grand tour’ promising various people various things. I have the postings (and relatives attended one of his events) from a Potomac neighborhood’s listserve. I attended another friend’s meet and greet in another neighborhood.
I drive by that dumb empty huge piece of school land in Potomac regularly. It’s ridiculous and infuriating - that community has united to make sure that either only gated mansions on 5 acre lots or nothing goes on that huge school property. Meanwhile, in other cities (some of which buses Potomac kids attend) schools are double booked and every piece of green space is turned into dense multifamily housing and high rises with no free space in sight.

Many other communities try to unite to, say, not have their neighborhood Park paved over for a new school (on nonschool land) or to preserve their greenspace and they are laughed at.

Ficker will have a school built on that Potomac site if he has to pour the concrete himself.

There is sometimes a great upside to having an aspiring populist in office.

At the Kensington Labor Day parade, Ficker tried to get my kids excited about ice cream at next year’s parade, so he’s at least qualified to run for student council.

I was there. Wanted to chat with him a bit, but had to cut out, as the crowd of people ahead of me wanting to meet him was too long. I'm starting to feel shut out, because both times I've called his campaign asking for a yard sign, they told me they'd run out and were waiting for more. In any case, he's got people's attention. We'll see if there's enough of them.

I won't vote for Ficker though it is tempting and I understand why some are. It is SO frustrating to have Elrich and Floreen as our options. This County desperately needs a new direction, and no one on the current council should be CE. We had a few decent options, but, as is the Democratic way, we couldn't get our act together behind one consensus choice and they split the damn vote! And now, we have 3 truly lousy options. I swear, we are our own worst enemy.

FWIW, I'll be grudgingly voting for Floreen as the lesser of 3 evils. But really, we're screwed no matter what.

Vote Ficker. Nothing to lose. If it's a disaster, we can toss him out and say we told ya so. If it works out and he shakes things up, well, we can we told ya so then too. There's literally no downside to voting for him.

Flicker! Flicker!!

Does he maybe have a backup should he get sick or something and need to bow out shortly after the election? Is there a lieutenant County Exec?

Shouldn’t you know basic government before voting?

You don’t even need to know that to run for office these days!

I know a volunteer involved in his campaign. I think Ficker was kind of blind-sided by the Floreen thing and now he has to get his campaign operations together now that he stands a fighting chance to win. Meanwhile Elrich and Floreen are experienced politicians with well-oiled campaign machines behind them.

One thing that's helping Ficker is he qualifies for public campaign funding. It's Elrich's pet legislation, and Ficker is benefiting from it. Check out this video Ficker produced with some of that money, quite professional:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ_zJQIrOWo

In the last county exec election 4 years ago, the Republican (Jim Shalleck) got 34% of the vote against incumbent Leggett. So if Ficker gets at least 34% this time, he may actually win if the votes for Elrich and Floreen are evenly split among Dem voters.

Ficker!! Ficker!!

What exactly is ‘liberal’ about leaving a school site unused while building a scho in another neighborhood on the neighborhood park and building building building in Bethesda and having schools at double capacity? The dems and awful county council are just corrupt and would do anything for a vote.
