VLC parent here and the situation was explained to us by VLC. From what I was told, there was a preliminary HOCO sheet that had the various tiers and VLC had two teams at the highest level and two teams at the 2nd highest level. A guy who runs VLC explained that when the final list was sent out, they made shorter divisions that knocked down some teams like VLC.

VLC tried to argue to keep the teams where they were originally set, but were outvoted. We are a family that came over to VLC this past year and are very pleased with the transparency and instruction our family receives.

Thanks. Are you able to say how many practices the youth teams have each week during the Spring (and Summer if you by chance already know), and where are the practices held? I see the game/tournament schedule is posted on the VLC website but nothing about practices is listed.

Different PP My kid's team had seven practices in September and October, then eight "Skillz and Drillz" sessions December through February, then 13 practices until the end of May. Usually one per week. Practices are generally at GMU. Tournaments in June and July but no practices scheduled for those months.

This is incorrect. Last year, my son had practices 2x a week in May-June leading up to the tournaments (and there might have a few during the summer tournament season). I asked someone who has been with VLC longer and they said that is absolutely the norm.

It was fun seeing a few VLC alums playing in the college tournament. Most notably the Yale goalie, who played for vlc and st Stephens class of 2017, who will be in the cage for today’s final.

He played at STA, not SSSA.

STA = st Stephens and Agnes?

He played at St. Albans, not St. Stephen's

Also two on UVA’s roster.

Four on UVA's roster according to VLC.

Yeah, the VLC social media machine made that clear before the opening whistle! Lol. Seriously, robust and slick marketing is part of the reason VLC is making Madlax an afterthought in the club/youth lax scene. Keep it up dudes, just don’t get too big for your baggy britches (or more specifically cargo pants) and don’t get too crazy for the Benjamins.

VLC teams played in the lower divisions in the Howard County Spring league this past Spring season. Madlax played in the highest division for every age group. Don’t think you can say Madlax is an afterthought just yet.

Ya really trying to keep score by how a team does in a podunk youth lacrosse league. Ha! It’s all about college recruitment which trickles down to everything else. Madlax has had a lock on that for a decade. Still is #1. Blackwolf took a bite out of that, but Trig’s demons caught up with him. Baltimore Crabs rivals Madlax, and VLC has been like an ugly stepsister to the Crabs. But with VLC alums killing it at places like u-MD and Yale, crabs of the Baltimore variety are becoming more of the step-sibling! PVI, the de facto feeder to VLC is strong and with their new campus is poised to take over the western part of va. So me thinks VLC is on the verge of crushing all area clubs.

Another point about comparing HOCO rosters is that VLC does not have re-class kids. They do not have 15 year old 8th graders and 13 year old 6th graders. That may be why the teams seem to do better later on when the kids catch up later on.

Do they develop players, or do they simply replace players as each year passes with better players? How many VLC Division 1 college commits started in their youth programs?

VLC didn't have a youth program until recently. I think last year was the first year they had a 2025 team.
