And Lee. The bulk of these students chose Lee overwhelmingly because it was the closest site. |
I agree. |
There is relief for "age outs" fwiw. They aren't counted. I get the skepticism. But maybe we actually appreciate someone speaking out from the inside. It's tiring to see how many FCPS employees won't be transparent and honest in how the sausage is made. I work in the system and even as a teacher, it's frustrating the lack of transparency. A lot of what PP said tracks from what I know. I work in a Justice feeder, fwiw. |
Not sure if you are reading the entire thread or not, but FCPS has shut down all adult transitional schools, so no, not “and Lee.” Lee (night) is not an option and Lee (day) has not been accepting new 18+ year old students for a few years now. |
How can a school know how old a student is if there’s no proof of age submitted? I could say I’m a 16 year old, Swedish, natural blonde - but that don’t make it so! |
Dont they require birth certificates? |
Shot records. |
And if there’s no record of immunization and I just show up? |
Try it and report back to us. |
| They’ll just tell me to go to the local health clinic to get the shots I need. Where’s the proof of age? It’s a concern, especially with so many unaccompanied “minors” in our school system. No one really knows anything about their ages or backgrounds. |
| Yeah i dont think we should be educating adults for free. Are they paying for this? We are only constitutionally required to educate children. And they should have to prove they are minors. |
This is an interesting discussion but is really one for its own thread. |
| Back to original question, not debating pros/cons of the school - if you’re not going to Lee, where will you go? |
| To address a question -- yes, FCPS is required to enroll adults in high school...up to 20 or 21, I think? I can't remember the ceiling but it's common sense. Think about it. A red shirted kid with an August birthday moves his senior year. He's 18. So, obviously, he's allowed to enrolled. The school I work in has kids who I know are 20 and are juniors. They stay until they age out, but like I said, I can't remember what age that is. |
If true this is outrageous. A 20 yo should not be in a freshman class with 14 yos. At that point just go to NOVA or wherever they give GEDs |
