Let’s see some quick CAPS goals in this second period!
I get laying the blame on Smedberg, the metro rep from the Council but can’t understand people laying this on any other individual council member. I do chuckle at the argument that Mayor Silberberg is too overwhelmed by details to have possibly understand the issue and why it would be a problem. 17:07 - I appreciate your perspective! |
I'd chuckle privately, if I were you. The Mayor's role has been historically purely a figure head. The VM was and is the main actor. The Wilson-leaning media have obfuscated that. |
| Watch the Caps parade be on Tuesday and cause low voter turnout, letting all incumbents stay on. |
The Mayor gets a vote on Council, and gets to chair and set the agenda at Council meetings, and has a bully pulpit. I don't think Jinks would refuse to respond to an email from her on this or any other subject. The local media (alex times and alex gazette) are of course pro-Silberberg and hostile to the Council majority, often viciously and dishonestly so. (AlexTimes wants to move the general election back to May from November, they claim "because local issues are different from national" but we all know because seperating from state and federal means lower turnout, esp among POCs, poor, renters, and young) I have read the friggin emails. There is precisely one involving the VM, and precisely one in which someone from WMATA says (not to Jinks) that the NDA does not apply. The rest of this is arguments ab silencio, speculation, etc. |
Low turnout is good for the challengers (plus Silberberg) - the old white people from OTCA are going to turn out, helll or high water. |
What does that mean? Because there are two, he's off the hook? How many times can I hit my wife before it counts? |
| *aren't two. |

Results coming in... https://results.elections.virginia.gov/vaelections/2018%20June%20Democratic%20Primary/Site/Locality/ALEXANDRIA%20CITY/Index.html
Half the precincts in, Wilson leading Silberberg by almost 6% |
| This race is so close - the lead has bounced back and forth as the precincts come in. Looks like Bennett-Parker is the popular council choice which I think would make her vice mayor. Not bad for your first race! |
| Why the hell is Del Pepper getting another term?? |
I’m in West Alexandria and she by far has the most signs out in my hood. Also, she was at my polling station today. So we apparently love her out in this neck of the woods! I certainly don’t mind a council candidate actually showing up in my neighborhood. We don’t get that much out here.
|
| Yikes, Wilson winning the primary is a bad thing for Alexandria. Saw him today when I was voting and I so wanted to take him to task for his dishonesty but his children were with him. Guess he felt he needed safety in numbers. |
Obviously, I mean that’s the only reason I spend time with my family outside of my home. |
| Smedberg is out. Wonder how much that has to do with the PY crappola vs just a crowded field of candidates. |
I grew up and live on the west end too, so I get it. But Del Pepper stands for very little and will do close to nothing to move this city ahead. We need young/fresh blood in this city. |
