Comparison of Kate and Meghan’s wedding dresses

Kate's wedding was nearly 10 years ago.

Her dress was very fashion forward and stylish then.

Of course it no longer looks modern compared to Meghan's dress.

It shouldn't. It is almost a decade past.

The dress is plain and fits poorly. Looks off the rack and a size too big. If she were aiming for Bessette-Kennedy, she missed. However I like her a lot and I think her hair and makeup are fine because she is naturally beautiful, healthy and glowing, the service was awesome. Her mother looked great.

No, it wasn't.

Like most of what she wears, it was classic and tasteful, made expensively, and fit beautifully. But you couldn't date anything except the shrug and the hairstyle within 15 years of that photo based on the dress.

It was closer to five years ago than 10.
Seven to be exact.

Ugh, I hate discussing their differences because..I don’t understand why you can’t like both. And, they are different people, different roles to play, etc.

Kate and William’s event was ‘everything grand.’ In London, with a majestic carriage ride, the ultimate fancy dress (and perfectly beautiful on Kate). Not as much emotion, as they were carrying more history, drama, and power.

Meghan and Harry’s could be more personal. Smaller venue, closer carriage ride, more personal preferences on dress, speakers and music. More emotion can be displayed by someone not so close the seat of power, and by an emotionally-outward American woman.

They are both beautiful, and great.

I much prefer Kate's dress because I think that Meghan's didn't fit correctly, but I think Meghan looked younger and prettier overall. That being said, I don't think Meghan had as many options as Kate, given that it was her second wedding.

Meghan wins the evening dress battle hands down, though.

Meghan also had less options. I think the crown protocol means that Kate will always trump Meghan. Meghan could not outshine Kate's dress. Then you have the monarchy guidelines (rules?), can't show your shoulders, no short sleeves, no cleavage. What's left? A plain sack from Givenchy!

I agree. I didn’t think it fit well on her upper body and the sleeves were not flattering. Lucky for her she’s very pretty and still looked good.

Do you still think so? It’s 1980s meringue.

NP. I was 8yrs old when Charles and Diana got married and I thought it was the ultimate in princess, fairytale wedding dresses. Most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Now I find it very dated to the 80s but still amazing for what it was.

That was the ultimate, princess fairy tale wedding of all time. Then stoopid Charles had to turn out to be such a dud.

It wasn't Charles who was the dud. He was forced into marrying a teenager who was too immature to understand what she was doing. She didn't come into her own until her various affairs with downstairs Men and then with two social climbers.

Diana's dress was gorgeous at the time and absolutely perfect on her but looking at it now, it is really quite dated.

I think both Kate's and Meghan's dresses are more classic looks that will stand up to the test of time.

Agree 100% with all of the above. Kate and Meghan both had absolutely gorgeous wedding dresses. Diana's was considered stunning at the time (early 80's). I was 12 at the time of her wedding and fell in love with that dress. Of course, looking back now, it was quite fussy and dated. But for its time, it was perfect.

Kate's and Meghan's are both far more timeless classics. Utterly breathtaking.

'

Are you kidding? Kate's was the most requested style for years after her wedding. She single-handedly brought sleeves back into fashion.

I always thought that Diana's dress needed a good ironing.

The designers have talked about that.

The dress was perfectly pressed when she put it on but they forgot to account for loading all of that fabric into the carriage. It was a lesson learned for royal wedding dresses.

How was Markle's dress unwrinkled when she emerged from the car? It looked perfect to me.

They are called freckles. Her childhood photos show those same age spots, as you like to call them.

This happens to everyone who has freckles. Everybody likes them and thinks they're cute when you're a kid, but you get to be over 35 or so and everyone starts referring to the very same marks on your face and body as age spots. It's crazy!

Another biracial black woman with freckles here. I used to dislike them, but I’ve grown to accept them. I get ‘em from my (black) mama.

I’m pretty sure given all her other amazing touches to this wedding, showing off her youthful skin, freckles and all was deliberate. No heavy foundation to whiten her up - she knew millions of young girls of color were going to be watching and she wore her natural beauty proudly.

+1

She did good

Totally disagree. I think they both look beautiful, sophisticated, and glamorous in their evening gowns. And yes, Kate does look young and modern in hers. They are different women, with different looks.
