Metropolitan DC Local Politics
This is age old anti-Semetism. Anyone who dismisses this as anything else and doesn’t take it seriously is contributing to the problem. There is no excuse for this behavior. An elected official should be held to a stricter standard. |
Plus, she's a Jewish woman in her 30s. I can't believe she's that ignorant. |
|
And here we have DC problems in a nutshell - lack of education and critical thinking skills. |
| This is unbelievable. If a white councilmember made a similarly racist statement about blacks, he would have resigned already. The double standard is incredible. |
Of course they are. But people talk about "The Rothschilds" like they're this magical family that controls everything and rules the world. It's conspiracy theorist mumbo jumbo. |
+1. |
I'm the PP just above - telling this Jewish woman that she and her parents are wrong - and I now think she misrepresented herself. She writes like a young person, not particularly educated, and certainly lacking in the knowledge I'd expect from a Jewish woman in her 30s. I suspect she or he is not Jewish, but a "kid" trying to diminish the blatant antisemitism White has revealed (again), and pit forth the idea that Jews are making too big a deal about it. But, I'm off-track. The main thing is.....why aren't Ward 8 residents clamoring for his resignation? Even if they don't have an issue with his antisemitism (and unfortunately many do not), are they content with a blithering idiot as their representative? This guy needs to go. |
Yup, this is not new in chocolate city. Gentrification can't come fast enough. |
It is not double standards that are the issue but electoral politics- if a white councilmember (or an at-large one) made this comment they would likely have almost no prospect for getting re-elected. But this particular councilmember is not likely to pay a price at the ballot box for this comment and is probably paying no attention to this hub bub. |
Yup. And while the Democrats are clamoring about anti-Semites among some far-right loonies, we have an official Democratic politician who is apparently being forgiven for his (repeated) antisemitic remarks and attitude. |
I think you are missing the point. |
But he's one of ours, you know? |
Please don't blame all blacks (or even all poor blacks) for the ignorance of one or a few. He ran against LaRuby May, a Bowser protege, last time - I presume Bowser would be happy to have him off the Council. But I don't see she has leverage to force him to resign. |
Only by Nadeau, AFAICT. Silverman called him out for his climate ignorance. |
Uh, no. The present occupant of 1600 Pa Avenue said he had no idea that reposting a picture of a star of david with a pile of money was antisemitic. It is, sadly, credible that CM White actually did not know that the Rothschilds were Jewish. Because he is not someone who knows history, and I don't think he has ever learned it, or been genuinely curious about it. In fairness, he graduated Ballou, HS, from UM Eastern Shore, and the now defunct Southeastern U, not from private schools and UPenn, and is not a "stable genius". So, er yeah, ignorance - horrible, disqualifying ignorance, but ignorance. |
