It is absolutely tedious that this has to be spelled out for you. If you are going to talk about being homeschooled and "getting a GED while you're 14" then we can use JLaw as an easy example since she just made the news recently for doing exactly that. Yep, she "got her GED" at some point. If you are going to talk about "child actors" who are doing "what makes them happy" while not having a traditional education then we are going to talk about how many child actors/adult actors who actually make it VS the thousands of actors who wait tables/work other low end jobs without ever making it into a movie. Let's talk about how the vast majority of actors are NOT doing what makes them happy. And yes, if you have a subpar education and your acting dream doesn't pan out, there will not be a whole lot of options for you when you realize that maybe film isn't for you. This is exactly what people are talking about - that if you are homeschooled/unschooled, you're not really well-prepared for the real world. No body expects every kid to get a 6 figure job. But you're joking yourself if you think quitting school/being homeschooled poorly/"getting a GED" means you can even waltz into a $45k insurance job or accounting job or management or something similar. |
Thank you. I can see that you know nothing about it. Do you honestly think that a $45k or a $70k insurance or accounting job is better than waiting tables for your rent money, while doing what you like to do. Maybe you don't hate your job that you got because of your education and it's hard for you to understand that those of us who do hate our jobs and do it purely for the money don't see much value in the system in terms of life satisfaction. It's a machine, where nobody cares about you. I don't understand why it bothers you so much that people choose alternative way. They are not forcing you to do it and you definitely don't know what's better for their kids and their families. |
You are truly a first world ignoramus. Only in the USA do you have entitled idiots like you who really think that being on welfare or waiting tables for life is a viable life choice, because society has provided safety nets for you. Let me ask you this - these homeschooling nut jobs who live in camper vans and work 2 weeks on/2 weeks off from city to city - what do they do when their kid breaks a leg? THE PUBLIC pays the ER fees their kids rack up because these free-loaders have no money for medical bills. Yes, I know people who live like this. They homeschool. They think it's a smart thing to do, collecting welfare, living the life. What do their kids have later to show for being poorly homeschooled? Being trapped in a lower-pay job is NOT "doing what they like to do." It's called "that's all they can get." No choices. Oh and by the way, I call total BS on "doing what you like to do" and "waiting tables" being put in the same sentence. I bet just as many waiters hate their jobs as any other profession. |
Because public schools are gateway to prisons for demographic reasons, and they can't afford privates. |
I'm from Los Angeles and have many friends who tried to be actors/musicians/models. You NEED a backup career plan because chances are you won't make it. And that needs to be more than just "wait tables" and that means some sort of education or skills beyond dropping out of high school or even getting a GED. Most people who drop out of high school or get a GED at 15 and try to make it as actors while waiting tables are miserable by the time they're late 20s, and they can't afford health insurance, housing in LA, etc. Some of them turn to prostitution, etc. too. I know a some who were strippers/did porn but you get told you're "too old" for that fast so you need to figure out something else by the time you're 30. And you have no real skills or education. I'm sure most of them WISH they had the possibility of an accounting or insurance job to fall back on. |
Why are you folks so bent out of shape about not everyone going to college? "The world needs ditch diggers too." MYOB. |
I don't see it around me at all. We must be living in a different Los Angeles. I am talking specifically about those who were homeschooled and got their GED. A teenage high school drop out is not the same. |
Man you are so arguing just to argue. Just stop. |
What’s your point OP? This thread demonstrates that a wide variety of people choose homeschooling. It’s like asking why wealthy people send their kids to public school... |
I know several homeschoolers and all but one use an accredited online curriculum. |
This link says North Dakota in the only state that requires the parents to have a college degree. I think your info is old. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.psychologytoday.com/blog/love-in-time-homeschooling/201007/should-homeschooling-parents-have-college-degrees%3Famp |
You clearly do not know any homeschooling families. And the people who waitress can make great money. |
It's always better to go to the source, actual state regulation (http://www.legis.nd.gov/cencode/t15-1c23.pdf) and not 2010 internet post from 2010 with a broken link. I learned that from homeschooling. |
Way to miss the point. |
This is OP. You clearly have reading comprehension issues because you did not understand my question. I asked why uneducated Americans homeschool. I know there educated people out there who homeschool but it's not what I wanted to discuss. |
