They are happily employed people, what else do you want? I am unhappily employed with a graduate degre as I had to get that degree because I don't know what I like to do and I chose money instead. My path is disgusting. I am glad that we don't shoe in everyone in one box. I see importance of school in the social aspect of life and preparing for dealing with "unfairness" in life. Academics - it's a memory exercise, schools don't teach analysis or logic much.
This is so dumb. For one, are you aware that for every Jennifer Lawrence (who slept her way to the top, BTW. She made jokes about giving Harvey Weinstein BJs), there are thousands of people who are working deadend jobs in LA trying to make it in the film industry, and are probably not fit to do much of anything else if they quit school at 14 like her? If every, most, or hell, even half of all homeschooled kids had the opportunity to make millions like her, or even 6 figures, no one would be complaining. It's mind boggling this even needs to be spelled out for you.
You are focusing on Jennifer Lawrence, who I know nothing about. Do you actually know those people? Not fit to do anything else? They don't want to do anything else, why is that so hard to understand. It's not about 6 figure jobs or leading roles. Do you think everyone who works in a corporation dreams about becoming a CEO? Do you think every small business owner wants to create Walmart? Besides, you are comparing quitting a regular school to homeschooling which is not the same.
It is absolutely tedious that this has to be spelled out for you. If you are going to talk about being homeschooled and "getting a GED while you're 14" then we can use JLaw as an easy example since she just made the news recently for doing exactly that. Yep, she "got her GED" at some point. If you are going to talk about "child actors" who are doing "what makes them happy" while not having a traditional education then we are going to talk about how many child actors/adult actors who actually make it VS the thousands of actors who wait tables/work other low end jobs without ever making it into a movie. Let's talk about how the vast majority of actors are NOT doing what makes them happy. And yes, if you have a subpar education and your acting dream doesn't pan out, there will not be a whole lot of options for you when you realize that maybe film isn't for you. This is exactly what people are talking about - that if you are homeschooled/unschooled, you're not really well-prepared for the real world. No body expects every kid to get a 6 figure job. But you're joking yourself if you think quitting school/being homeschooled poorly/"getting a GED" means you can even waltz into a $45k insurance job or accounting job or management or something similar.
Thank you. I can see that you know nothing about it. Do you honestly think that a $45k or a $70k insurance or accounting job is better than waiting tables for your rent money, while doing what you like to do. Maybe you don't hate your job that you got because of your education and it's hard for you to understand that those of us who do hate our jobs and do it purely for the money don't see much value in the system in terms of life satisfaction. It's a machine, where nobody cares about you. I don't understand why it bothers you so much that people choose alternative way. They are not forcing you to do it and you definitely don't know what's better for their kids and their families.
I'm from Los Angeles and have many friends who tried to be actors/musicians/models. You NEED a backup career plan because chances are you won't make it. And that needs to be more than just "wait tables" and that means some sort of education or skills beyond dropping out of high school or even getting a GED. Most people who drop out of high school or get a GED at 15 and try to make it as actors while waiting tables are miserable by the time they're late 20s, and they can't afford health insurance, housing in LA, etc. Some of them turn to prostitution, etc. too. I know a some who were strippers/did porn but you get told you're "too old" for that fast so you need to figure out something else by the time you're 30. And you have no real skills or education. I'm sure most of them WISH they had the possibility of an accounting or insurance job to fall back on.
I don't see it around me at all. We must be living in a different Los Angeles. I am talking specifically about those who were homeschooled and got their GED. A teenage high school drop out is not the same.
Man you are so arguing just to argue. Just stop.
