However, Maryland is not ranked above these schools.

False. It makes zero sense for WI instate students to choose MI over WI. MI might be a hair better in the eyes of the out of state students from places such as NJ, with third rate flagships.

Who cares about the higher SATs when Maryland is ranked lower than Wisconsin and it just simply not considered to be in the same realm from a reputation standpoint? And even more, what do the old national championships in football and basketball have to do with anything? Wisconsin has been more successful than Maryland in both sports more recently, particularly football. Because College Park is crud. It is ugly and a massive eyesore. Nowhere to really walk. Not a college town. Too far from DC.
