Sorry, fat finger hit post. Let's try this again. Wisconsin requires their athletes to meet more than the NCAA minimums (which are a joke). That doesn't mean every single athlete meets the same academic standards as non-athletes who are admitted.
I didn't say they did. But on average, the recruited athlete at UW has a much higher threshold for admissions than just about any school in the P5 except Stanford, Northwestern and maybe Vanderbilt. Despite that, the department has maintained a level of excellence in certain sports including the income generating football, Men's basketball and women's hockey and volleyball.
Football Volleyball Men's hockey Women's hockey Men's basketball All ranked in the top 10. No other school can say that 16 post season bowl appearances in a row 19 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances
Damn straight!
No national champs though. Rankings are fine but winning it all in at least one is better.
F-f-f-false. A quick Google search reveals that WI-Madison teams have won numerous NCAA national championships.
None very recent. Careful.. Don't use google it empowers U.MD
Hickey is quite recent. Nothing empowers MD except wishful thinking that a third rate school with an ugly campus is special.
^ hockey
Higher SATs than Wisconsin , more national championships including in football and men's basketball the two biggest and located inside the beltway of the worlds most powerful city. Just sayin.
Who cares about the higher SATs when Maryland is ranked lower than Wisconsin and it just simply not considered to be in the same realm from a reputation standpoint? And even more, what do the old national championships in football and basketball have to do with anything? Wisconsin has been more successful than Maryland in both sports more recently, particularly football. So please, go sit in your living room in your Under Armour underwear and watch the muppets and the weather on the Jumbotron and stop hijacking this thread. No one on this thread but you is interested in talking about Maryland.
