yes, big was totally a catch. i liked him. i also liked berger, harvey, smith and tray. aidan less so but i guess it could work. why is nobody talking about jon bon jovi character? it was short but he was HOT

What made Big a Catch?

he was wealthy, attractive (played but at least an average looking actor) and, we were led to believe, intelligent and funny.

i mean, what more would he need to be to be considered a catch by you? sure, he was ambivalent about committing to carrie but that's because he was out of her league, like he wasn't sure if she was the one the way she was sure about him. which merely reinforces the fact that he was, in fact, a catch.

Diff poster here, but interesting that "wealthy" is always the first thing listed about him being a catch. The list above covered quite a few reasons why I never considered him a catch.

Inability to commit, went right from Carrie to a younger girl he magically could commit to. Jerked Carrie around every time she was seeing another man. Cheated on Natasha. Left Carrie at the altar and humiliated her. If a guy did all of this to your best friend (or you) would he still be considered a catch?

he was perfectly capable to commit. he just wasn't in love with carrie.

And apparently not in love with his first wife or Natasha. Just cause he could marry doesn't mean he could be a real man and commit.

Big definitely can't commit. It doesn't matter who the woman is.

Big was wealthy trash.

Smith was the best catch of them all. Humble, attractive, respectful of Samantha's need for independence, didnt let the acting success go to his head.

Steve was too blue collar for my taste.

Harry was nice but NMS

Trey was WASP-y trash

Richard was wealthy trash

Berger was too much work for too little return

Mr. Big is ugly(sorry, actor whose name I don't know), also overweight, imo, just rich. I guess that is why he is a catch in Carrie Bradshaw's eyes. My whole take on her character is that she is ladder climbing user who wants a rich guy so she can live her NYC socialite/expensive life style. She also had no personal integrity, like Big, so maybe they are perfect for each other?

Yes. I was watching this episode recently where she was telling Miranda she felt insecure around Big because he is so perfect with his perfect apartment and perfect expensive furniture and perfect $500 dollar sheets.

It's all about the $$$ for her. Has she ever liked anything else about him?

That Richard character would have been great in 50 Shades . . . soooo gross!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Skipper!!!!

Steve seem to be Skipper version 2.0 at times.

At the beginning sex and the city was realistic when it comes to Miranda's dating prospects, which would, of course, be dismal. By the end she seemed to live in a fantasy world where a gorgeous sexy doctor was obsessed with her. And meanwhile Charlotte had shifted from pulling all the hot wasp dudes at the yacht club to being stuck with HARRY.

I felt like some of the writers' wishful thinking was coming through by the last season

It was honestly not believable that someone with Char's good looks and commitment to marriage would have to settle for Harry.

Miranda would've realistically ended up with a skipper.

Carrie with a Burger type. Maybe a fellow neurotic self obsessed writer.

Charlotte didn't settle! That's the point! Every other Park Avenue Princess who marries a Trey has big issues.

Different poster here, but that was exactly my point as well. Charlotte got a good man.

But why couldn't they have given her a good man with good looks?

Because the writers were jealous and resentful of women like her who ACTUALLY had guys falling over themselves to date her. It's the same reason they gave Miranda that hot and completely implausible doctor who was obsessed with her... wishful thinking.

He was rich as %$#@ -- sort of guy who's used to single gold digging women chasing him like lost puppies (or horses, in the case of SJP).

I'd watch reruns of SATC if there was a way to block out all scenes with Miranda (and Steve). Nothing makes my skin crawl more than her.

Also wasn't a big fan of when Sam got cancer. Made a fun show depressing, a downer. And the writers who made Charlotte marry an ugly Jewish guy were prob projecting.

Girls like Char are snapped up by at the longest 28. There's no way she'd be single OR hang out with trashy women like Carrie and crew.
