I have been lurking around these threads and been reading the stories about Blair.
Much, if not all of it is true. A senior did inform Starr during a visit that the magnet is being absorbed into the regular school. The Silver Chips column on the visit states as much. I checked the math teacher tweets and yes one did want students to tweet during class. Another did admit learning about Cardinal and Ordinal numbers from a student. Yes, students were given Magnet Bingo sheets during advisory. Johnson did get rid of the magnet counselors. The counselors know little about the needs of magnet students and failed our children by not performing their duties competently. The magnet courses are open to anyone. That dumbs down the instruction. Think speed math at Blair. Almost all the veteran magnet teachers left. Some math courses are taught by nonmagnet teachers. Today Blair was evacuated because two students pulled the fir alarm. Yes, it happens elsewhere too. Most magnet students do attend Saturday classes and get supplementary help. The high PSAT performance is because the kids. It has nothing to do with the school. Look at the MCPS reports and you will understand why. The RFP is another sign of impending doom for magnets. |

You're back, and sock pupetting again?
Lurking? You live here and post constantly.
Wait, why did Starr need to be informed by a 17-year-old, if you're claiming that Starr himself is the evil mastermind who is dismantling the Blair (but not Poolesville) magnet? I remember you said Principal Johnson "needs" the magnet. So Starr is supposedly the dark prince of magnet dismemberment, right?
Link -- or even some cut and pastes-- or it never happened.
Link or it never happened.
You don't know what Advisory is, do you? It's not an actual class.
BS. Counseling did move to an alphabetical assignment. DC's counselor has a PhD. But if you're contending that counselors are failing their students, you need to look at the list of college acceptances.
No. Many magnet classes are closed to non-magnet students. Other magnet classes are only open to non-magnet students who have met the pre-reqs or talked to the magnet administrator. Very few non-magnet kids take magnet classes, because they have a well-deserved reputation for being super-hard.
Utter BS

| I wish that the Blair troll would at least be more interesting. Trolling is bad enough, but boring trolling is worse. |
Blair can keep trying to BS the populace or name calling anyone who points out the worsening learning environment. One thing the nasties can do is refute the truth. PP was right about most PSAT award winners being Asian. |
Boring. Please try harder. |
| Childish people. Can't believe you people are parents. Worse than kids bickering. |
| Don't know about Blair magnet but they definitely killed the elementary magnet at TP. It is desperately watered down and nothing more than bragging rights. |
Um...SO? Please expand on this. It may or may not be true, I don't know why anyone cares and I'm just curious to know why you think it matters? |
That poster is so full of it. She has a long history here: she's Asian and she used to live in Blair's Four Corners area but moved north to the Poolesville cluster because she didn't like that minorities were moving into the Blair neighborhood. Also, she's a toe-curlingly bad sock puppet. I know many non-Asian NMSSFs at Blair, because I have a kid there. At least Asian PP could use the correct name for it: it's not called a "PSAT award winner", that's just embarrassing: it's called being a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist (I'm one, and white). |
I get that this thread is tedious, and I'm sorry for that (and I'm sure some others here are, too). However, some of us feel that the Blair basher's complete fabrications shouldn't be allowed to stand out there alone, unchallenged, if only because they'd deceive readers who don't know any better. |
Schools have a legal obligation to provide an appropriate education for all students. They can't pick one needy group over another. They should be doing both. |
| I'm sure that this study isn't all about Blair even though the thread is. I wonder if it's more about immersion. |
| ^ the study is about all "special programs" including all magnets. even though posters have made this thread for/against Blair program, it really isn't about just Blair. It's clear MCPS is thinking bigger than that. |
