What do you think about a Japanese Immersion Public Charter in Ward 7?

Spanish is great to communicate with my neighbors or someone with a Latino business, but I don't see a future in it. I don't see my child growing up and going to Columbia just to sell coffee beans, because that is all they have to offer. Or some other country in Latin America who deals in sugar cane and bananas. No!! I want more options. I don't want French unless my child is going to be an arms dealer or in the wine or bread business. Japan is it!! China will be our enemy soon, and Korea will cave in when the North invades. No. Japan is a safe bet. Get angry. What car do you drive? What PC do you use? What TV do you have? Samsung? Okay. That's Korean, but my bet is that a lot of what you have is from Japan.

Convinced now.

How do you "you're nuts" in Japanese?

Atama wadui. And for you Baaaka is stupid.

If the demand is there why not? It is popular at the collegiate level. JET is a popular program. I think t could useful. Great Falls elementary in VA had a Japanese immersion program.

OP here....Let's keep things positive. No need for ill feelings. Great Falls and Fox Mills have thriving Japanese immersion programs. People move to Fairfax County for these programs.

I'm loving your transliteration.

warui, not wadui

Warui is how people write it most of the time in English, but for people without a lot of language knowledge, wadui might get you closer to the real thing.

That Japanese 'r/l' thing seems a lot like a short D to me.

Because there is no demand for it except for the initial poster who keeps trying to tell us what she thinks we need. That's why I say not on my dollar. NEXT!!!!

For one, I'm not a women or the same person posting. You make demand by educating people. If DC decides to do Japanese immersion, it'll be on your dime. Just like Spanish immersion is on my dime, which I didn't sign up for.

Just my opinion as asked. I have no objection to the original poster setting up a Japanese club or group or whatever they want to, but I do not support the original concept of a publicly funded Japanese charter school as originally outlined by the OP. What's next?

Not "most of the time," ALL the time. Ironic that your making a stupid argument for the translation of stupid.

It does not matter. IF the OP were capable of opening a Japanese Immersion school, she would do so. She hasn't, ergo she isn't. DCPS can barely manage English Immersion schools, so don't look there for innovation. Unless Toyota wants to get into the education business, this conversation is all about pipe dreams.

I like the comment about pipe dreams. Pipe dreams can lead to real ideas coming to fruition. Please enjoy this video. Please note that this is a real initiative. We are working slowly and methodically in this endeavor. If Sela can succeed, we can too. There is enough for all language immersion programs to prosper.

This is OP here.....

Haa Ha. Do you think Immersion schools just pop up over night? You must be born yesterday. This is not OP....Oh yeah. Japanese Immersion is a bad idea so don't bother going to the cherry blossom festivities ever. Next!!

I'm a ward 7 parent. I'm assuming that most posts are made from people living in other wards. This is a waste of time.
