OP here....Just know I am not the author of the negative comments posted. I believe that all languages and cultures are valuable, interesting, and important.

That is very good to hear. Some people get tired of listening to Asian superiority/ efficiency. This is America. We believe we are all equal. If you wanna learn Japanese, knock yourself out. But don't try to spend our hard earned taxpayer money with things that are specific to a very small minority.

And to the person who asked how do I know Japanese is hard? It is not hard, it is impossible! There ain't no words similar to American English. It's like learning Greek, but ten times worst. I would rather have my teeth removed without anesthesia.

We. Who's We? I'm an American. I don't knock our countries efficiency. Tax Dollars? I pay my taxes, and I probably pay for a lot of junk that you like. You don't hear me complaining.

I don't hear about Asian superiority. What are you talking about? What circles do you run in? Are you talking about the movie back in the 80's "Gung Ho"?

Colombia also sells great coffee, which your kid will drink with sugar cane sugar from Latin America to kick that nasty blow habit in his late-twenties, early thirties.

France sells wine and cheese, which your kid will need to learn about after he starts waiting tables because the rap sheet blocks him from using his MIT degree.

That was hysterical! Except the last part about cars... but the rest is awesome!!!

Let us forget about economics and politics.

As a parent East of the River that understand the problems in ward 7 & 8 schools, what would make the best language immersion choice that will inspire children to learn and stay interested? Put yourself in the child's shoes. What will make the child say I'm interested in this language?
