That's great! Did she actually get a response over the weekend? That's kind of impressive!

She didn't say, but I know that the deadline was mid-day Saturday, so I think the person in charge if the waitlist is definitely checking. My friend had another good option and is super excited about SSMA.

That's great! What was her other option? We are deciding between SSMA and Apple Tree.

I don't want to post her other option since it's not my child, but it was a longer-term program that I think a lot of people would have said was a no-brainier to take over SSMA, at least a lot of people on this board. However, she feels that Montessori is best for her kid, and she had a lot of confidence in the quality of the program at SSMA. She is wary of the communication issues but also has confidence that that can improve over time. Good luck with your decision!

SSMA location is on the agenda for tonight's DC charter school board meeting. We'll know then whether there's a problem with the location.

Unless something has changed since the agenda/documentation backup, the amendment request shows the Wisconsin Ave location, the terms of the lease, etc.

SSMA has announced to parents that the Wisconsin Ave location won't be ready in time, so they have signed a lease with SELA, and will be located there this school year.

Apparently there is and parents have received an email.

Seriously? I have not yet got an email about this...annoying!

I am really curious what will happen tonight at the charter school board. If anyone goes, please report back. I'm curious if their incompetence is putting their charter at risk. When are they up for renewal?

Not an SSMA parent but i've been following this saga...

Wow. I feel bad for the SSMA families for being thrown back and forth .

Yikes! They sent out an email, but maybe it only went to parents from this past year. There is also a copy of the message on the SSMA parents' FB page. Here's the relevant info from the mailing:

As you know, we have had extreme difficulty finding a new home for Shining Stars. While the 2461 Wisconsin Avenue is our preferred location at this time, we are greatly disappointed to inform you that the Wisconsin Avenue location will not be available in time for the beginning of the school year. To ensure that school will start as scheduled, we have entered into a lease for a property at 6015 Chillum Place, NE. This property is currently used as a public charter school and is ready for our immediate occupancy. Shining Stars will occupy 12,000 square feet on the ground floor of this building. Our neighbor occupying the upper floor is the current tenant, Sela Public Charter School. We recognize that this location may be inconvenient for many of you, so we are open to organizing a shuttle bus service.

Does this mean they will move to the Wisconsin location at some point within the year or will they be at SELA for the entire school year?

At this point, would you really believe what they told you?
