PP I bet if you pull the records of hearings about starting STEM academies at other schools before the school board and such there are references to TJ, along the lines that it is successful, providing good services that should be available to more students throughout the county, etc. That's what is supposed to happen when you have a good formula for success ... |
The metaphor is laughable. Perhaps we should all start tithing to TJ. We owe the students there so very much. It's certainly not like anyone there should thank others for funding the over-the-top renovations to the school. |
No. Sadly some do it to boost the self esteem of their parents. |
It is NOT "those TJ kids just dragged all of Fairfax County schools up a notch" but it is an overall strategy to challenge ALL students, provide good services, etc. |
Let me make sure I understand this quote
"Don't be so cocky and think that you would have gotten into TJ because you got into Harvard since it's likely that Asians with higher SAT scores, higher GPAs, stronger teacher recommendations, stronger essays, stronger ECs, more officer positions, more national awards and more volunteer/community service hours compared to you were rejected by Harvard. " Are you dissing this poster because they got into Harvard without going to TJ? Does going to Harvard, or any other top school, only count if you go thru TJ? What point are you making here exactly? |
If you go to Harvard and study medieval arts history you are an idiot. |
the elite colleges should include MIT and Stanford. They are real interested in TJ grads, esp. MIT. |
simple anecdotal reality - whites are increasingly saying fuck it, let the Asians have it. TJ is too much of a grind; they really want to have a life as well as a good education |
I think some parents work so hard and spend so much money for years on "AAP prep camp" and "TJ prep camp" and Kumon and tutors and nagging their poor kids that the idea that one might choose not to go to TJ (the end game apparently) is just unfathomable. |
DC goes to Rachel Carson (in AAP) and I was surprised at how many of DC's classmates didn't even apply (and these are really smart kids who I assumed would apply). So maybe things are slowly changing. |
In what perverted universe is this school not diverse? Surely it is in a racialist one where people label everyone from the continent of Asia as similar in some meaningless way. If we find out that 25% have ancestors from India, 25% from Korea, 25% from China, and 25% other, does it make it seem more diverse then by using the overly broad labels of Asian, African, and Hispanic? My happiness is the growing number of students reporting themselves as multi-racial, rebelling against these ignorant names. Races are not biology, they are racist creations. |
Actually, all Ivies only tale a few kids from each school at best. Your chances to get into any good school increases if you are a strong student at a low performing school. However, getting a TJ (or any magnet) education is helpful because you can actually handle college well and are well prepared to do well in collge. So - If end goal is to get into Harvard - it may be better for you to get into a low performing HS and take the highest courses available there If the end goal is to do well in college - Get into TJ or other magnet schools. It is a baptism by fire, but by golly, you will not be dropping out of pre-med because you can;t hack it in college! |
Legacy! |
As soon as you move to Europe and blacks move to Africa, we will go back to Asia. Or maybe the native Americans who should be ruling this country will actually need educated people to run this country and ask us to stay? |
