| Potemkin Village effect. While you can garner far more from speaking directly with other families, many will be reticent to speak frankly with a stranger. The anonymity provided by DCUM is ideal for brutal honesty. |
...and boosterism, and sh*t-stirring, and rumor-mongering, so it is to be taken with a gigantic grain of salt. |
No time to spare five minutes to post @ 8:18 in the evening? Spare me. |
But why would you even assume that she's on this forum? Do you picture her, at the end of her long day at L-T (she's still usually there at end of aftercare at 6), logging on to the forum? Just because you do does not mean she does. |
If you must go there, it was a disagreement btw my partner and I. It was a last minute add, based on the idea we would reach out to people after the fact. I am sure you can come up with something else obnoxious and hateful as the rest of your posts. As I stated, we were not interested in this school. What jerks you are. I have brought up valid questions only to be personally attacked. I guess I will just have to take solace in the fact that if I am ever part of this school, I will not treat people the way you are, and the tone of responses regarding nearly all of the questions about L-T on this forum. Why do they always devolve into uncivilized messes? Shame on you. It speaks so highly of all of your "school culture" and the best part of it, is that it is up here for everyone to see. Publicly, and for a long time. Congratulations on a tradition of "lowered standards" across the board. |
| And I'm sure you won't make decisions about what school to put your child in based on this forum. It is useful to a degree but absolutely does not reflect particular DC schools, neighborhoods, people, etc. Good luck. |

No, I wouldn't, if you're talking to me, me that asked about the upper grades at LT and some practical information and was met with silence. But there are certain things you can kind of tell from what's said and what's not.
I would still like to know how strict they are with uniforms and what kind of math they use--by the way. |
OP, I'm not saying you're a bad person, but I do think you're quite tone deaf in your written discourse. I would lampoon the thread as follows... OP: "Oh no, we didn't get in anywhere decent. We only got into our absolutely horrible IB school. Parents of children who go to this absolutely horrible IB school, can you tell me about it?" Dutiful LT parents stepping up to the plate: "We are actually really pleased with the school so far. It has a terrific early childhood education program, and some of us are in the early upper grades and really like that too. There are some flaws such as aftercare, but really it's been a great place so far. We're very impressed with the program. Many of us are planning to stay long-term." Some folks who don't have kids at the school: "How could you ever send your child there? The principal is horrible. When we were at the open house, she ripped my child's teddy bear from her arms and stomped on it." Dutiful LT parents again: "Well, PR definitely isn't the principal's strong suit, but she does have many fine qualities. She hires really great teachers and keeps them." OP: "I could never send my child to such a horrible place because I actually love my child and care about their education." LT parents who have now been outed as not loving their children or caring about their education (and have been revealed to have gone to lesser Ivies): "Oh, go away, dillweed." Honestly, most of us are not bad people. But you have been pretty insulting to those of us trying to help and give you information. If you want all kisses and cuddles, you'll need much better lottery luck or $40K per year for tuition. I think my kid is getting an excellent education at LT right now, and that's okay by me. |
PP, virtually no one on this forum has kids in the upper grades. I'm not sure how familiar you are with DC public schools, but on Capitol Hill, there are a few "gentrified" schools where neighborhood kids are now reaching 3rd and 4th grades. For these schools, you could get some good information on the upper elementary grades. There are quite a few more not-so-gentrified schools where people go to preschool only. For these schools, you would have a very hard time getting good information on upper elementary grades. LT is somewhere in the middle with neighborhood kids now reaching 1st and 2nd grades. (And this is a gross generalization with many exceptions I imagine.) I'll do my best to answer a couple of your questions: - The older kids all seem to be in uniform when I see them... - DC does not have gifted programs although there are certainly some schools working around this in imaginative ways. - I sincerely doubt there's a strings program... - Yes, all you need to do is move into the catchment zone from Kindergarten on. And right now, all inbounds kids in preschool do get in as well. - There are lots and lots of arts classes because it is an arts integration school. And since the 4 year old do science, I have to imagine all the older kids do as well. |
| Me again. I'd probably phrase some of this response more artfully (politically correctly) if there was an edit option. And other posters, please correct inaccuracies. |
Doesn't the title of the thread say it all? |
| The sad face in the subject line is obnoxious |
Umm no...no time to READ this crap. |
| OP, in all seriousness, you should ask on MOTH. While posters are sometimes loath to post negative reviews of anything tithe whole list, I have found neighbors to be very candid in private communications. I am sure some current parents would be happy to answer your questions. Good luck. |
