Matched IB Ludlow Taylor :( What is the lowest WL position worth considering as an option?

The OIG investigates this stuff and publishes reports, and it does make a BIG difference and for lots of positive change.

Or call NBC of Fox - they'd love to set up cameras outside. One of their reports will trigger an OIG investigation, no doubt.

If the school is allowing non-residents to attend for free, then there's a break-down in administration, period. That cannot be tolerated.

Why don't you do it if you are so concerned?

LOL. That wouldn't exactly be great publicity.

Don't bother with the OIG. DCPS has two employees charged with investigating residency fraud.

FOX5 might seem like a good bet. A couple of weeks ago they sent a news struck to cover a story about a sinkhole in someone's front yard after reaching out to DC WATER.

A little different than accosting parents with young children trying to go to an elementary school. That is not a good look for the news. But one of these lovely super angry DCUM posters could take on the story themselves?

Because I don't have first-hand knowledge. But if I did, I wouldn't accept mismanagement and fraud. But you may not mind that; so things never get better.

Ahh...no first hand knowledge. When in doubt...insinuate. I believe many a problem was just illustrated.

People on this thread have been consistently complaining about Md. tags dropping kids off at L-T. If the kids are non-residents, that's fraud and a bilking of DC taxpayers' money. If you think that's acceptable, you're not a positive element to this society but representative of just what is actually very wrong. If the principal is not trying to catch these fraudsters but passively allows the behavior, that's mismanagement and she needs to go. The only kids that should be in DC public schools are bona fide residents and tuition-paying non-residents. If parents are aware of abuses, they need to report such.

Maybe those people have reported it? I really don't see it and I keep my eye out for that sort of thing because people have commented about it on this forum in the past.

I think people are making unfounded assumptions. Some kids have multiple people who are authorized to do pickups and dropoffs (nannies, family members, etc.), some of those people will have on-DC plates. Or some children have separated parents. Only one of them needs to be a DC resident. I remember representing a domestic violence client who moved to MD with her children but her children were allowed to continue in their DC school becasue the father still lived in DC. Some MD folks also pay to send their kids to DCPS. I'm sure this will become more difficult as a school becomes more desirable.

Lets just assume this is happening even if we have nothing to back it up with.

What is this thread even about anymore?

OP - you have heard from several current families who are happy with the school and the fit for their children. Weigh that against the information you came in with - some basis in fact but stale and not substantiated. Then decide. If you come, please do be nicer than you have been on this thread though.

Brent also seems to have a few MD and VA pickup and drop offs on a frequent basis. I've heard rumors about ways to game the system, such as using a relative's address, but have no reason to believe that some other extenuating factor like divorce is not at work.

We were there the other day and saw three Maryland and one VA tag. The lobby smelled like second hand smoke, I think it was from the security guard and her friends hanging out and dancing around at the desk. It was grosss. The kids looked depressed. The classrooms were dirty. No thanks.

Prospective parent here. Not IB but live a few blocks away. We got in via lottery (not our 1st choice). We've been watching this school over the years, even before we had kids. Really like the transformation, made some visits and spoken to some current parents (not at the Open House) but freely and off-site. We're planning to go to their school event (which is before the enrollment deadline) and we're pretty sure we're going next year. BTW, took my DC to their playground yesterday afternoon and peeked into the ECE classrooms for another look through the windows. They looked great...much like I remembered from the OH. Hey all, let's quit being so judgy. We all do the best we can. Maybe we're cool with the school, others aren't and that's just fine. At this point, I feel lucky that we got in "somewhere" that we happen to be okay with.

We are one of the families who have accepted a PK3 spot at LT. I got a call from an LT child development 'something' today and was asked a ton of detailed questions (i.e. can your child string 4 words in a sentence, can he put on his jacket, can he string 'pasta' on a string, etc) all about my 3yo development in terms of language, social skills, motor skills, etc.

They said they ask the same Qs of all parents to have an idea of the level of the incoming 'class' and prepare accordingly. Also they will have time set aside to help you fill in the application if you need help. It seems like they are ready to deal with parents who know what they are doing as well with parents who don't.

I was pleased with the call, and happy with my choice for PK3. For later years, time will tell.

Does anyone know if there is anyone at the school this week accepting enrollment paperwork?
