Any MV families considering a move to Bancroft to avoid horrendous commute next year?

Traffic on North Cap is hurrendous as it is so I wouldn't do that route if you are coming from north. First Street is also backed up during rush hour. Best bet is to metro! Too bad we did not get in at MV . Would have been nice to walk to school that's just a block away.

Hi neighbor! We did not apply to MV although it was tempting. We're already at another DCI feeder and use P St. and N.Cap every morning to get there although depending on what time MV opens in the morning, it may not be an issue. I just have to watch out for the Dunbar kids and the commuters trying to get on 395S.

Actually, I told my DH that we should just sell our house... to a MV family

Hi there! I assume you either go to YY or LAMB? Do you take North Cap going back to 395S? Or do you take the side streets? We did not get into anything in the common lottery but keeping fingers crossed that we'll magically luck out at YY or Stokes (wishful thinking I know but let me dream even for just a second ).

Ha! We may actually do that if we end up with nothing next year!

Yes, YY but my neighbor across the street has a kid at LAMB so we commiserate. There are a few kids who go to TR. Traffic hell for all! I never take N Cap all the way back down mostly because it is always a mess trying to turn into 1st St NW toward 395S from P St. NW. That intersection can be hellish during morning and afternoon rush. The afternoons backups like today can be even worse than the mornings.

With all the additional traffic we have to put up with, I don't see why there is no neighborhood preference. Oh well.

Crossing my fingers for you for YY and Stokes!

Curious to know which route you take going back down? That commute is the reason why we didn't put IT and Lee that high on our list. Good to know their are families in the neighborhood that go to YY and LAMB in the off chance we get in at YY or Stokes. I take North Cap everyday going downtown me it's not a bad drive from our neighborhood to downtown. If your coming down from Missouri though, that's a different story.

How bad is the traffic/commute at the new location, specifically coming from North Cap or Florida? Is it horrendous in the morning?

It can be bad or horrendous, yes. Some days not so bad. (I commute that way.) For a quick and dirty check, you can download the Waze app and run the route at drop-off time.

I take 1st St NW back down. Turning into Channing St after passing Michigan Ave from N. Cap. Even with all the stop signs, it's better than going down N. Cap b/c I hate P St NW - and trying to turn into First St NW. It's usually backed up to T St or about and people block the box on 1st and P St NW.

I go home and park the car and walk to work when the weather is nice. I work around Judiciary Sq and it's only a mile or so. The walk to the Red Line metro, NoMa, is about 1/2 mile so just easier if I walk nevermind finding parking.

If you work around Judiciary Sq, it's much easier to get on 395S going from First St NW to NY Ave - Judiciary Sq is the first exit on 395S.

I live in the area and take N Cap from P St to Union Station every day. My end of North Cap is okay but if you are coming down from North, it's bad. It starts to clear up when you pass New York Ave. Where will you be coming from?

I would probably try Florida rather than N. Cap. No reason for you go on N. Cap if you don't have to. Avoid 1st NW also. As long as you can reach P St. NW going east, you'll be fine.

Yeah, traffic on 1st in the mornings is bad (well, in the afternoons too). I work near Metro Center and take North Cap down and turn right on D St. Most of the time, I go up Q (rather than going down 1st) and turn right on North Cap. It's still faster that way than sitting on traffic on 1st. My kids go to day care close to Judiciary Sq so my husband takes the alley which takes him to New York Ave. He takes that first exit that you were talking about. While I welcome MV to our neighborhood, I am not looking forward to the traffic that it will add on P St.

The pp is right Q St NW (one way going East) as long as long as you can... turn into 1st St NW and another left into P St NW.

It's not going to be pretty. We would move except it's so convenient to work - it's convenient for every one else too.

IT IS HORRIBLE 90% of the time and don't let anyone tell you any different. With all of the construction, foot traffic, detours, and general congestion its almost always adds a stupid amount of time. When the construction is over in 2-3 years it should be better....

Keep in mind that when the First St Tunnel project finally gets rolling full steam ahead 1st St may be entirely closed to southbound traffic north of RI Ave at times over a 2 year period. All of that relief traffic that usually cuts over on Channing will be funneled further down N Cap. And then the pending McMillan development following completion of the tunnel ...
