That's Bullis Mom. Her recent statement that "my telling off of the Algebra teacher [at Langely] was legendary" tells you all you need to know.

the telling off mom earns the title of self centered c bag of the year.

Wahhhhh my snow flake couldn't bring his laptop to school.

Learning disabled. Diagnosed and written up. School refused to comply - illegally

STOP. This is not your DD's thread. Don't insist on making it hers.

I wasn't talking about my DD. You people don't read, do you? LOL

You can continue with warm and fuzzy. I'm going to work to institute change.

It's no surprise by witnessing your attitude here on this forum why you had to leave Langley.

LOL. I didn't HAVE to leave anywhere. I chose to.

Now, are you going to help other children by getting involved and fixing what's going wrong with our public schools, or are you going to behave in a manner that blocks progress? Your choice.

politics and agenda? You are pathetic.
Your kids falling academically has nothing to do with these kids.

It has everything to do with it. Good kids get crapped on because they want to go to jmu. It is part of the social fabric at Langley. My daughter is thinking about VCU and she will not tell anyone because of the same social stress. She looks at the scattergraph which shows that to get into JMU from Langley you need a 4.0. How many of you got a 4.0 in high school?????

And god forbid you actually go to NOVA, you are looked down upon and ridiculed. AND RAGONE AND TEACHERS AND PARENTS ENCOURAGE THIS!!!!!

One of these poor boys left school, he was confused and hurting. Which one of the Langley teachers/admins/psychologists reached out to help him? His friends would try to contact but he wouldn't respond. He was camping in Georgia trying to find his way. Have none of you ever felt this way. No one took the extra effort that was in a position to do so. Langley has a different psychologist every 9 months over the last few years. But don't worry, those are not the AP kids so we don't need to spend the money. There are probably at least another 30 kids in senior at Langley like these 2 kids. I know of 4 boys in my own neighborhood with significant emotional issues from Langley and the social crap. Like the Senior LEAP a program for seniors to experience a working experience, but again it is not for all students. 15% of the students will be excluded like they always are, due to grades but mainly just another way to segregate and remove the bottom kids.

I absolutely agree with this. I could have written the sentence about my daughter. Exact same experience!! Feels horrible about not being an AP student, and she is really smart. I am not just saying that as her parent, but because of all the testing we have had to do at our own expense because of some issues she has in order to get anyone to listen. Not even severe issues in the scheme of life, just things that make the stress at Langley unbearable. The things the teachers and counselors are saying to the kids is unbelievable. My daughter was struggling in chemistry, spending hours studying, getting tutored twice a week, and heard "oh, you are clearly not trying." And here is the kicker - Although she came close to failing the class, she got a pass advance on the SOL!! I have also heard so many excuses in favor of the teachers like "Oh, she is use to dealing with upper classman or AP students." I have no idea what really happened in this horrific tragedy - the only people that could truly explain are no longer with us - and there are no words to express the sorrow and grief for the families and community, but if this sheds any light on the culture of Langley, and causes any changes that is a good thing. The kids that use drugs and become severely depressed are not bad kids and not always with bad parents. They are self-medicating away the pain, and need help and understanding. By the way, not every family there has the means for private school or moving which is something else I have been reading here.

You're an idiot, there is no indication that these children suffered from LD.

You all seriously need to stop raising your kids to be so mean. Stop putting so much emphasis on material items and wealth.

I have seen this before, no one speaks ill of the dead. It does not mean that they were not tormented in life. So many times even the bullies will shed a few tears for their victims, especially when cameras are rolling.

If the administration is serious about reducing stress at Langley here is one idea that would help. Rank all non-AP, non-honors teachers by the average student grade in their class and address the teachers that pass out the lowest 10% of grades. Those teachers, and I hope the teachers are reading, are contributing significant stress to the students and what's worse is that the students feel trapped. As a parent, my 2 current Langley students feel the most pressure from the perceived loss of opportunities low grades from those teachers are causing. If Mr. Ragone is serious about reducing stress, identify those outlier teachers and force them to relax their standards or teach in such a way to improve the average grades in their class and measure the success.

Want an example? Why do the Langley Spanish teachers teach above the book? Are the vocabulary words in the FCPS Spanish 1 book not sufficient for Langley student's that they must add 50 to 75% additional words by way of worksheet? Is the Freshman Science textbook so below the Langley standard that students must find supplemental instruction through Kahn Academy just to muster a B or a C on the test. Was it not possible to extend the second semester a week because of snow to allow further instruction from the teachers to adequately prepare the students for the semester exams?

Mr. Ragone, how about this, make each teacher show you the % of students in their class who received a D or F on the second semester exam. Want to make a difference? Find the outlier teachers and demand improvement for the current semester.

Mr. Ragone, there are actionable steps you can take to reduce the stress at Langley, please take action before our children, who feel trapped, take actions themselves.

This has been posted many times. Some just insist that bullying had to be the reason. They have no idea that T was well liked by friends, parents, teachers, coaches. He also would have been the first to reach out to a new kid and make him feel welcome.

Rest in peace TS.

PP, will you send your idea in the form of a letter to the school administration? (I don't necessarily agree with all your conclusions, but that's not relevant.) Please don't forget that DCUM is an anonymous forum, good for venting or brainstorming, but not where the real world changes are made.

Yes & agree, just trying all angles of communication since change is hard for everyone, especially for a public school.
