Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| 07:43-- great post |
| I have always thought of bullying as more of a middle school, early high school phenomenon, but these kids were seniors in high school? That seems amazing to me given Langley's reputation as a pressure cooker where the seniors would likely be focused on going to college by now, not harassing each other. Even though we should respect families' privacy, if this bullying rumor is true I hope more details come out so that schools and parents can consider how to deal with similar situations in the future. |
| I am in the Langley district. From what I understand, one shot himself and was found in a FFX park. Another OD'd on drugs in his car and that is being investigated as a suicide as well. |
| Bullying can be quite different than what we experienced as students. Social media can intensify all the factors. Gossip is spread quicker, lies are hard to challenge, etc. Everyone has ready access to a camera (on the phones), so lapses in judgement can be officially recorded… There is no doubt in my mind that it is an incredibly tough time to be a high school student. |
| I have a Langley senior who knew those boys (one boy was a friend). I'd be outraged, but surely expected pure DCUM speculation on the reasons for their deaths. All I can say is when I talked with the 10 crying girls at my house last night: none of the kids or their social media is suggesting that bullying is what led to the deaths of those boys. |
| Does anyone know if the children were bullied due to their SES? |
I am following the twitter feed #saxonstrong Some kids are referring to bullying. |
+1 I also have a Langley senior who said there is no indication of bullying in either case. People should really stop putting these things out there on DCUM, especially if they have no idea of the details. |
Sorry, didn't finish. It probably wasn't SES because kids at Langley are either rich or richer. The real issues there are a tremendous amount of academic pressure and an apathetic administration and staff. Morale is quite low |
Frankly I don't think speculation on DCUM forum is damaging to anyone anywhere. It's a public Internet board not a court of law or a medical facility. |
Sad. I am a graduate of LHS and feel sad that anything could drive a kid to this. Rest in peace, kids. God bless, families and friends.
|
I hear you on this; twitter feeds suggest otherwise though and I don't know why. |
|
I agree with some of the posters. Yes, there were 2 suicides, about 24 hours apart. No one knows if bullying was a factor in either case, so any speculation of such is just that - speculation. I have heard one kid was battling depression. The other kid: just a complete mystery why. So, further guessing about wealth, drugs, etc are premature.
I cannot imagine the pain the families and friends are going thru... |

I don't believe the bullying hype that's so universal these days.
