Triplets in House Fire in Bethesda--Install Fire Detectors

And don't forget about carbon monoxide detectors.

Now, I must go apologize to my husband for making fun of him for filling our house with every type of fire and carbon monoxide detector possible (both battery powered and plugged into outlets). It's hilarious when they all start to lose batteries at the same time (I swear, they all beep within days...you could go crazy trying to figure out which one it is).

I still do lie in bed at night trying to figure out how I would climb down a fire escape ladder holding a toddler.

I just got my Washingtonian magazine and this was the cover story. What i found surprising was that it was extremely favorable about the dad despite all i had read before.

Would you have expected a Washingtonian article to be anything but positive?

i was just reading it-- funny, but doesn't seem to mention at least so far -- that the smoke detectors were not working! hello - that would have changed EVERYTHING!

I just read it ... its a very long article. It really focuses on the firefighters rescue. I was confused about the 3 mins after 911 comment. It seemed to say he immediately called 911 and they came 3 minutes later. Somehow that doesn't seem right.

I only skimmed it, but isn't the author a neighbor of the family?

FWIW, we recently had a renovation done on our home. The renovation included moving several walls to create more bedrooms. The contractor installed smoke detectors in all the bedrooms. The county inspected the space and everything was great. Then as we were moving into the bedrooms, my husband noticed that none of the smoke detectors were actually connected to electricity (the type we have are hardwired into the electrical supply of the house and also have a battery backup). If it hadn't been for my husband's watchful eye, we probably would have assumed that the smoke detectors were connected and were working.
