I don't understand the problem here. There are several schools of thought about the number and make-up of continents. Why have you all gravitated to the idea that North America and South America must be viewed as two different continents, as if that somehow is a life or death distinction? The point of that tangeant in the thread was that the United States thinks it is AMERICA. All America. Our God Bless America song is for us folks here in the 50 states, right? We're America. Unless of course you think God Bless America was also including the folks in Guadalajara and Montreal. That's nice if you do. |
There are many figures of speech and colloquialisms that aren't literally true, but that are used in casual conversation nonetheless. They don't necessarily reflect a philosophical viewpoint. |
I like actual first names, not these pretentious pseudo-first names. |
I bet your kids' geography book teachs that Amazon doesn't belong to any specific country... sorry I don't know the word they use here. But the truth is that Amazon belongs to at least 3 countries in South America. There are A LOT of things that "Unitedstatians" schools teach wrong. |
ok, let's go...
There are 5 Ways to Count Continents: #1 - Seven Continents Africa - Antarctica - Asia - Europe North America - South America - Oceania #2 - Six Continents Africa - Antarctica - Eurasia - Oceania North America - South America #3 - Six Continents Africa - America - Antarctica Asia - Europe - Oceania #4 - Five Continents Africa - America - Antarctica Eurasia - Oceania #5 - Four Continents Eurafrasia - America - Antarctica - Oceania |
well God bless whoever! |
Maybe I'm too old but I thought the seventh was simply referred to as Australia (for the country and the continent) not Oceania.
|
Worst name = Aragorn. I met this kid and could not look his parents in the eye! |
Name one other country that has colloquially adopted the name of the continent to represent itself. |
? What's pretentious about these names?? That thought never crossed my mind. |
don't worry pp, this idiot doen't know that EMERSON is a beautiful FIRST name in parts of South America. |

I am going to name my children names that follow my midwest roots. Hoosier, Buckeye, Badger........ |
Um, no. They do not teach that. You are wrong. |
