Worst Name?

I don't understand the problem here. There are several schools of thought about the number and make-up of continents. Why have you all gravitated to the idea that North America and South America must be viewed as two different continents, as if that somehow is a life or death distinction? The point of that tangeant in the thread was that the United States thinks it is AMERICA. All America. Our God Bless America song is for us folks here in the 50 states, right? We're America. Unless of course you think God Bless America was also including the folks in Guadalajara and Montreal. That's nice if you do.

There are many figures of speech and colloquialisms that aren't literally true, but that are used in casual conversation nonetheless. They don't necessarily reflect a philosophical viewpoint.

Love these! To each his own.

Me too, as do all my friends ... I'm afraid to ask what names that poster likes??

I like actual first names, not these pretentious pseudo-first names.

So, should I call the county and complain that per this website and the super smart geography minds on this board his official text book is incorrect?

Let me know, because if they are not responsible for teaching him the correct continents I will complain!

And why hasnt Jeff weighed in yet? Surely he knows the correct answer.

I bet your kids' geography book teachs that Amazon doesn't belong to any specific country... sorry I don't know the word they use here.
But the truth is that Amazon belongs to at least 3 countries in South America.

There are A LOT of things that "Unitedstatians" schools teach wrong.

Maybe I'm too old but I thought the seventh was simply referred to as Australia (for the country and the continent) not Oceania.

Name one other country that has colloquially adopted the name of the continent to represent itself.
