But as a practical matter, if the forum gets hit with 5 posts about what a killjoy moron you are every time you try to post a return to the discussion, then with or without anyone's consent, discussion has become impossible.

I'm Christian but not catholic. I don't agree with statement that Catholics are not Christians.

I don't know how to rephrase this for you, but I'll try again:

The conversation was shut down before it was finished, by a stream of insults to the effect that the conversation shouldn't have occurred in the first place. I had more to say, and I bet others did too. That was a waste of a good opportunity to explain how many of us Christians have no problem with homosexuality.

Jesus Effin' Christ! Just say what you have to say, already! Can't you see the irony that repeatedly posting complaints about how a thread has been derailed contributes to the derailing! If you have something more to say, say it!! If not, you're part of the problem that you are complaining about. You're the one disrupting the discussion now.

Really, because that's not the official position of most of the Christian Churches. Not the Baptists, Southern Baptists, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, or the Methodists.

Which denominations are you referring to?

It's a small point, and you are right, most Christian denominations formally recognize that Catholics follow Christ. But they keep Catholics in a separate category from Christians.

Brief examples: a Baptist friend from grad school told me that Catholics were damned unless they renounced their faith, because the Church is the Whore of Babylon.

When I tried to join the Christian homeschool group while stationed in NC, I was asked to leave after the leaders noticed my children making the sign of the cross when we said grace. They uncomfortably asked if I hadn't noticed it was a Christian group, not a Catholic group. I smiled and said, "We're all Christians!" and they frowned and said, no, you're not, and you can't participate anymore.

Southern Baptist family made a presentation about Canada at a homeschool "culture fair," and stated that Canada is majority Roman Catholic, so their people worshipped idols rather than Christ.

So the distinction between Catholic and Christian is significant in some ways. That is why we pray for the "unity of Christians" in our intentions at mass.

Not the pp - but I've known a lot of Christians who claim that Catholics aren't Christians. For that matter, I meet a lot of Christians who can't seem to agree on much with other Christians (ironic when they claim to have truth - but anyway).

Catholic is not seperate from Christian. Catholic is separate from protestant. Christianity has 3 major sects - Catholicism, Protestantism, and Orthodox. Within those, there are some denominations (or, with the case of Protestantism, thousands of sects).

Just a little world religion 101...

well, those are bigoted christians

The presence of a few morons in these religions does not mean that Chrstians as a whole do not recognize Catholics. We are well aware that there are bigots. The Klan was full of them.

Well, if they're all saying it, perhaps you should start your own thread on the topic that you want to discuss rather than force it. Or just say it. That's usually the way things work. But no one likes a whiner.

A Christian homeschooling group and a couple of Southern Baptists - you're cherrypicking, don't you think? Not exactly representative of mainstream Christianity. That's like saying all Republicans believe the same things as Ron Paul.

Wait, maybe that's a bad example . . .

Duh, if you'd stop asking her questions, she'd stop feeling like she has to respond. She's already said a few times that she's sick of responding to these questions. So stop ... what is the word ... baiting her.

There is no question in the post you quoted. No bait. Nothing to respond to. Perhaps you noticed the lack of any question marks? It was a polite (or at least as polite as I could muster after her interminable posts about how rude people are) plea to STFU. And it appears to have worked. Awesome. Success.

Most Christians don't consider Catholics Christians.

Um. The Catholic Church was the first Christian Church. Southern Baptists have been around for what....400 years or so. The Catholic Church has been around for 2,000. Jesus Himself made Peter the first Church leader.

I was raised in a very conservative Baptist home. And I've never heard anyone suggest that Catholics were not Christians. As a matter of fact, the Catholic Priest and the Baptist minister are very close friends in my hometown.

OK, I'm back. I came back just to tell you that you're a manipulative moron. Happy? Yeah, she's right, I got really sick and tired of people asking me stuff and accusing me of stuff, and I felt I had to respond out of courtesy. If you didn't want to read it, you could have skipped over it -- and that, my dear, is precisely what makes you the moron!

Actually, the first quote contains not one, but two questions to her. How on earth did you miss that? Actually, it's obvious -- did you read the thread about "Signs You Are an Internet Dick" last night? One of the biggest signs you're a total dick was not reading the post you're about to respond to.

There is no evidence in that article that the suicides and homosexuality are related. Just that there are students being bullied and that the district has had 8 suicides. The authors want you to connect them to prove their point but they are two unrelated facts (unless evidence proves otherwise). Lots of straight kids get bullied too.
