State primary elections and county elections. A large number of schools are used as polling stations so they could not have students

This is maybe the dumbest part of this. The polling stations are in the gym; just cancel gym classes that day. That's what happened when I was a kid, we never had off for election day.

Parking lot, restrooms, etc. are also used on election day.

Polling places are often in the cafeteria.

Schools are now closed on election day so that MCEA members can work the polls for the Apple Ballot. That is why the change.

Essentially, you have starting on the 18th School
No school
Weekend
School
No school
School- half day
School- half day

Nobody’s going to be there after the 18th. Flat out ridiculous and a waste of resources.

And they refused to disrupt the random four day weekend in February.

Or April 15. Because...who knows.

March 20, June 18 and ??
Just do that and resubmit. June 25 is outrageous for a last day

April 15 was the other one.

They should just take the asterisks off the contingency days on next year's calendar, they're a joke.

Why are they not doing this? I do not understand. March 20, April 15 and June 18. Done.

That would have been the logical thing to do. Why do they include them as makeup days, if they don't plan to use them?

It’s going to mess up all the summer camps that use MCPS facilities too..

I have to think most everyone involved (teachers and parents) have to think this is the craziest plan ever.

Yeah the other thread is debating whether or not kids who work summer jobs are privileged or not, and it made me think of the counselors at places like KAH that I assume are going to lose some pay if they can't work the full time camp hours that week.

So what happens if Monday is a closure? The virtue signalers won't let you take 3/20, the teachers won't let you take 4/15. And that's optimistic that it's just a Monday closure based on how these fools like to operate.

Blame MCPS. They put in 3 makeup days. Put forth that plan and the BOE approved it. And now they're not using those days.

March 20, April 15 and June 18 were good options.

It's MD state law that primary and general election days are public school holidays.

We had more than one snow day built into the calendar back then. That might also have been the year that they clawed back part of spring break.

From now on, instead of having a non instructional day after each of the first 3 quarters, we should just have two half days instead. Teachers get time for grading and planning and we add 3 more instructional days that way. Long planned half days are less disruptive than days tacked on to the end of the year.
