Is anyone else meaningfully less happy living here since Trump 2.0 started?

For people entirely disenchanted with performative politics while masses are distracted from real problems it has been a sh*t show regardless who is a power for a long while now. Trump = cartoon villain is certainly the dominating topic here and a stupid debate.

Objectively, there are many people in this area meaningfully less happy because of losing their Fed jobs, or fearing being deported, which makes sense. These two categories have absolutely valid reasons to be a lot less happy than others. For everyone else chugging along, what other categories of people would have legitimate hardships under this administration they didn't have already during Covid disaster and Biden's runaway train?

This!

I find her how honest people can actually say the US is some glorious place better than every other country et al.

Our country is a mess. I'm not saying I don't want to be American but admitting that our country is in a state of shambles. It's just not enough to say how awesome we are when we have everything from healthcare hot messes to infrastructure decay to weirdo psycho govt leadership running the show and violence and inflation scaring everyone about the future. I'm not sure why people can't just admit the reality that we aren't the country we were 20 years ago. We have problems and that's normal - every country does. The ones who admit the shortcomings have the opportunity to fix them.

Whenever I see all the houses flying the flag - it's like ugh. It's not that I'm not proud to be American but why would you be proud at this point in time? It's like a kid who just got a D or F on his exams - of course the kid may be great but that score should make him uncomfortable to some extent or he'll continue to do badly.

This is what scares me most about living here into the next 20 years - nobody wants to face the decay and dysfunction and just keep reliving the glory days. Of course no country is without its issues but seriously. Look how far we've fallen.

Plus, I have to explain to my kids that while the President of the United States and the Republican party think it's fine to say things like "shut up Piggy" and call people and our allies juvenile names, that we expect better from them as human beings.

my group of coworkers have been fighting layoffs from H1Bs for past decade.

and we would have thought Democrats would help us but Democrats made it worse! Biden expanded H1B helping corporations fire us and replace us with cheap H1Bs.

and H1B being limited, some of my friends have been contacted about development jobs. progress, how ever little.

Our city just voted against any protections against LGBQT as the federal government would withhold 65 million if they did not.

Other than in your mind, how has Trump affected you? Honestly.

I hate trump, but he has no tangible impact on my life.

That you know of yet. You don't think Doge took information on you from any intersecting government data bases? You are not solely immune to tariffs, the botched economic policies, rewiring of the supreme court to the supreme leader, stripping women of body autonomy policies, foreign purchase of favoritism, policies to disappear people and pardoning criminals because they are MAGA or purchased a pardon . . . you need to pay better attention,

People with H1Bs are being actively recruited by Canada https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/09/world/canada/canada-usa-immigration-h1-b-visa-talent.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

Lucky them. Take me with you!

Ah, the dreaded H1B that can turn a self-sufficient bootstrap-puller into a "dey took our jerbs" whiner.

Biden sacrificed college-educated Americans on the alter of H1B holders. At least T-rump is trying to right this wrong.

Oh please, this is laughable. He's doing no such thing. He's throwing you some crumbs and you're hungrily eating them up, even though they're too small for a mouse.

You should do just a little research on the amount of H1Bs and illegals the Trump empire uses in it's business dealings.

I have one friend with a totally traumatized 4 year old because ICE came into her daycare and aggressively arrested her teacher on school property. I have a non-binary child and I'm afraid for their safety as more people feel emboldened to say or do unkind or unsafe things towards them. I'm a teacher and at my school, we now have to do extra morning and after school duty to keep an eye out for ICE and try to keep them away from the car line. I feel incredibly unsafe doing this, but I'll do it to protect the most vulnerable. My family has pretty much given up eating out and ordering coffee because prices are so crazy. We always shop at Aldi first and then hit a traditional grocery store for the rest. My refugee friends have lost their SNAP benefits and are now only eating 2x a day instead of 3. Even the kids. (Yes, my family helps as we are able) I keep waiting for the entire market to collapse and lose much of my retirement. And just having to read or hear the insane things trump and his trumpettes say leaves me and everyone I know feeling gross. I could go on.

I second everything you said here. Plus during some salad years when I was still married to my ex, who banked hard for MAGA with hiss work girlfriend, who left her husband for him ... I was able to put aside some tangible things that escaped my ex's notice during the split of assets because they're "female things". I did this specifically in case I ever needed some emergency security in the future.

I'm in the process of selling those right now. "Today" is the future and now I need the emergency cash that I didn't need for the previous 20 years. I'm just lucky I have actual stuff to sell.
