The technical term is illegal alien.

I can’t even fathom what you tried to say.

He’s saying Joe INTENTIONALLY allowed millions of illegals in. Then in Trump’s second term he PROVED the border could be controlled.

So say what you want about the orange guy, he manages to get the job done.

It wasn't important to the democrats though. They explained they would only control the border IF their bill to hire more people etc was passed. I think they genuinely believed voters would accept this as okay.

Dems backed the bipartisan border bill, which would have massively increased border patrol staffing, funds for securing the border, funds to speed up deportations and so on. Trump killed that bill because he wanted the issue rather than wanting to solve it. He cared more about wedges than solutions.

I'm not undeestanding how Trump has accomplished what he has done regarding immigration, but the Drmocrats and Biden couldn't without that bill?

Worse. The bill would not have required any changes unless the daily number of illegal aliens exceeded 5000 a day. Less than 5000 a day and nothing changed. It was an awful bill.

HR2 - As usual, the globalists at DCUM completely ignored HR2. HR2 includes a laundry list of essential immigration reforms long fought for by immigration experts;
* Plugging loopholes in the asylum system that are currently being exploited by economic migrants by raising the bar for “credible fear” claims and denying entry to aliens claiming asylum at the border who have passed through a safe third country on their way to the United States and failed to apply in that safe country;
* Blocking the administration from continuing its catch-and-release policy by making most illegal aliens ineligible for parole or release from custody other than to be returned to their home country or to a contiguous country to await the adjudication of their asylum claim there (Remain in Mexico);.
* Preventing family units who cross the border illegally from being released into the United States by requiring family units apprehended at the border to be detained, protecting them from exploitation and victimization by the cartels and traffickers;
* Reining in the breathtaking and illegal abuse of parole that this administration has been using to create its own immigration system outside of the confines of the Immigration and Nationality Act; and
* Installing teeth into efforts to deter visa overstays.

Perhaps most importantly, the bill would require employers to check the legal status of new hires through the free, easy-to-use E-Verify system. By making it much harder for illegal aliens to find jobs, the reform would deter would-be migrants from ever journeying to the United States.

and yet Democrats have shown they are not serious about controlling immigration, and it seems that increasing immigration is a policy choice by Democrats/WAPO.

We didn't ignore HR2. We pointed out that it was a messaging bill with no hope of Senate approval. Lankford's bill was bipartisan and would have passed the House had Trump not tanked it.

Don’t we have all of this now? Why pass a bill when you already have a mechanism in place to accomplish it anyway?

But a New York Times examination of Mr. Biden’s record found that he and his closest advisers repeatedly rebuffed recommendations that could have addressed the border crisis faster, and eased what became a potent issue for Mr. Trump as he sought to return to the White House and justify the aggressive tactics roiling American cities today.

Former Biden administration officials told The Times that Mr. Biden and his circle of close confidants — including Ron Klain, who was chief of staff during the president’s first two years, Mike Donilon, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and Anita Dunn — made two crucial errors.

First, they underestimated the scale of migration that was coming. Second, they failed to appreciate the political reaction to that migration — believing that stronger enforcement would alienate Latino and progressive voters, and also that a border surge would not be an important issue to most voters. Those calculations would later prove to be mistaken, with many voters, including Latinos, citing immigration as a reason for supporting Mr. Trump in 2024.

This is the crux of the issue. They cared more about re-election, party power, than what is right by the American people.

Two wrongs still don't make a right. All of the political momentum Biden gifted the GOP has quickly been pissed away by Trump's careless immigration crackdown.

disagree

many many swing voters are happy with the immigration crackdown.

mayorkas and Biden screwed the US voters. now we have Trump and his chaos.

False. We have Trump because too many fvking idiots thought that Trump would lower the price on eggs.

DP. I don’t think about immigration at all. It has no effect on my vote.

I voted for Trump because of the border crisis. Polls show that it was the second most important issue, after the economy, for Trump voters.

I disagree that immigration doesn’t affect our lives. It affects everything - from housing costs, auto insurance costs, health care cost, traffic congestion, issues with ESL at schools, etc. I am one of the millions of Americans who is upset with the out of control immigration a thinks it is having a very negative effect on our country.

Thanks for your refreshing honesty--assuming you're for real. I would love to know, if I may ask: besides how Trump has addressed your concern about immigration, how do you feel about everything else he has said and done? And, do you feel that, in the end, it's all justified as long as he continues his campaign to rid the country of all migrants who are not here legally?

most of what Trump has done is awful. He is awful.

but he stopped DEI and he fixed the border.

why cant Democrats focus on helping US citizens?

Fixing the border is fine although the focus hasn’t been on the border so who really knows. All he does is brag about how many criminals and murderers he’s caught and grossly inflates the numbers.

The way they are so cavalier about sending men to a prison where torture is extreme and these men and some women have never been tried and convicted of a crime is reprehensible. Sending South Americans and Asians to war torn countries in Africa to fend for themselves is criminal. None of this is fixing the border. Fixing the border involves stopping people trying to illegally enter the country not people who have worked steady for 20 years, built a family, a home.

Democrats are not in charge, your question should be why can’t republicans focus on helping US citizens. Because Trump has become a dictator where republicans and reporters have become afraid of him. If he’s not focused on loving the mistreatment of our neighbors from the lower Americas he’s sucking up to billionaires, accepting their very large gifts and in return the billionaires are getting what the they ask for.

The focus hasn’t been on the border because that has largely been fixed. The focus has shifted to long-neglected interior enforcement and removals.

No, the bill was a messaging bill from Biden and Democrats to try to fool voters into believing they cared about border security after three years of open borders. It was not negotiated with the House. House Republican leaders opposed it and the majority of Republicans opposed the bill on its merits, not because of Trump. It was a poor excuse of a bill that condoned 4,000-5,000 illegal immigrants a day and released them with immediate work permits.

NP. I hate the creation of an unregulated secret police in this country, but I think there is a lot more support for ICE than you’d want to believe. The anger about unchecked immigration under Democrats and particularly the costs associated with that runs very deep and has been building for many years.

I am not even sure that ICE will be a negative for the Republicans in the next election. People might not like it the methods, but they want the overall outcome even if they won’t admit it. It’s sort of like how the polls wildly underestimated Trump’s support in 2016.

Some of us have acquaintances in parts of the area that aren’t particularly safe. We mingle with lower SES minorities you wouldn’t welcome in your neighborhood without a roofing hammer or a lawn mower.

I won’t tell you how to protest if you don’t lecture me about how to safely manipulate a firearm outside the home.
