I'm Desi. Harping on her looks is lazy. But Usha's just as rotten and ugly on the inside as her husband. Not remotely jealous of her amoral ambitions.

I am an Indian American as well and you summed it perfectly.

I honestly wouldn’t doubt if they have no sex life and the kids were created in a fertility clinic.

No one is jealous of her. Her husband is super gross and she’s a morally bankrupt weirdo. Also I promise you that other Indian people do not find her beautiful.

DP. It's bizarre that you think only the opinions of "other Indian people" matter. I agree with the PP. She is a beautiful woman and the more you protest, the more obvious it is you're jealous.

I truly can't believe such an insipid thread has been allowed to go on for pages. She didn't have a ring on one day. And this is what you nimrods are obsessing over.

She is not beautiful. Strangers double take at beautiful women. Nobody is double taking at Usha. She's average to slightly above average for her age.

Sure! Whatever you say. What a truly stupid thread.

From 2016, we have been told that Melania is divorcing Trump. Still didn't happen.

More like sleeping with the couch.

IMHO, not wearing a ring means nothing, maybe she sent it for cleaning or took it off because of a million other reasons.

+1
Yes! People make it seem like Usha is a poor unfortunate soul who is being manipulated by JD. If anything, Usha has the upper hand, and it would be interesting to see what her true intentions are. I don't trust her any more than I trust JD. She is definitely ruthless and cutthroat.

I don’t think she’s a victim but how does she have the upper hand? Jd could be with Erika Kirk next year and what would Usha have to show for it?

A book and the accompanying publicity tour about being an aggrieved wife left for a man-eating skank, which you idiots would buy into hook, line, and sinker.

Nobody will give a rat’s behind about Usha once JD dumps her.

Yes and no. I don't think the general public will care about her, but in DC she will always have a certain currency because she has seen and participated in the operations of the vice-presidency. All the campaigning, the inauguration, the intermingling with donors, the day to day events of the Second Lady, staffing, etc., give her an extra layer of experience that some will value in DC.

If she divorced JD during his vice-presidency, she could leave and say not much about it and probably be accepted by all but the Maga crowd. She would easily find a job at a DC law firm or go back to the one she was at previously, and she is well-qualified for it having clerked for 2 SCOTUS justices. She would get a hefty sign on bonus and perhaps enter as a partner.

She would retain at least half custody probably more on at least a de facto basis due to JD's work and travel obligations, and JD would pay child support (but maybe not alimony - or only alimony until she went back to work - not sure she can negotiate a new job while she is still sitting in the VP mansion and married.)

She could file and just say nothing publicly, and she would have quite a good negotiating position against JD in terms of coming to a settlement agreement on the marriage, equity and child custody and support.

So, TBH, if she wants to leave, she can leave quite easily, and it says quite a bit about her if she stays, especially after the course of the last year.

She could also remarry someone extremely wealthy.

Extremely wealthy men will not be interested because she comes with a ton of baggage and is very plain.

She without question hurt her legal career based on this debacle. Trump also target a bunch of firms that are a minimum will not be interested in hiring her either.

You mean like Human Abedin?

But Huma Abedin is elegant and attractive?

Errrmmm....no.

It’s weird. No idea what hit Usha over the head to marry this hillbilly.

I went to YLS. It is a small place without a lot of dating options plus a feeling that you’re sort of in a close community together. I’m pretty sure they were in the same “small group” which is a group of about 10 students that have one first semester small group class together plus all their first semester classes together so naturally bond and form study groups together. Marriages from small group are not uncommon. I think maybe Jed or Amy was their small group professor and it’s not uncommon for small group professors to host get together and such. My small group professor was a nice guy but definitely not the kind to be bonding with students. There was one marriage out of my small group of 10. Anyway you spend three years with the same group of like 200 people and it’s very insular and everyone is doing the same things and having lots of intellectual conversations, so I think it makes for some pairings that you might not see in a normal world.

Nearly all attractive charismatic students at my T15 matriculated de facto engaged. Usha and JD were 25 year old 1Ls. Weird terminally single strivers like Usha and JD immediately orbit creepy over-involved professors and will do anything for them, including enter arranged relationships.

The addition of the Amy Chua and her creepy husband, Jed, to the Usha and JD Vance pairing is a weird example of how sexually toxic even the highest, most educated echelons of America are. Depressing that even highly educated men are encouraged to value their female partners for their utility value in terms of what the woman can do to increase the man’s professional value and highly educated women are encouraged to “sell” themselves to prospectively successful men instead of investing in their own professional success.

Enter Bill Clinton another from YLS

YLS is super toxic but not sexually so. There’s really not that much sex happening. Jed is gross, yes, but there are really not people trading on sexuality at YLS and my understanding from professors was that Bill (when he attended a million years ago) was barely there. Hillary was the studious one. There’s a lot of distinction at YlS and a lot of people with stunted social skills but the people insisting that Jed/amy had them in an arranged marriage for political gain are just way off mark. It is a world in which many people are lonely, many people have not had the oppprtinity to have a lot of other relationships, and most people are actually genuinely attracted to people’s intellect. Jed and Amy play match maker with the judiciary and other power brokers but they arent pairing off students as some power play. Some people will naturally pair off in that environment. I am convinced their relationship was genuine.
Whether they still are in the same headspace years later, after three kids, two major moves, two major job changes, a religious conversion, and a major change in personality/outlokk, I don’t know. A lot of women in her situation would feel very disoriented in those circumstances, but she doesn’t seem to. Maybe it’s clear she’ll get her judicial appointment — God knows they’ve pushed through people who were less qualified.

Doesn’t Jed have a bunch of sexual misconduct allegations?

Yes, as I said, Jed is gross, and Amy has looked the other way on that forever. But none of the allegations involved them setting up students in fake relationships as a power play. That’s just not a thing. And people who suggest that just don’t understand how things work among people like Usha — people like this find it attractive when people are smart, ambitious, well spoken. That’s more of a turn on than 6 pack abs. I really think their relationship was genuine but a lot has changed since they married — those sorts of changes would strain any marriage. I just don’t have any sense of where Usha’s head is now and I don’t think anyone else does either. My understanding is that they’ve sort of cut themselves off from their law school friends and Usha has only a couple of friends from HS or college in her life. I would think things might even be strained with her parents given the attacks on academia etc. I think her situation is much more odd than melanias—I doubt she realized she was marrying a chameleon. Melania knew exactly who she was marrying.

Not quite cut off. JD has even helped a few get plum appointments and there are a few that are still close to him that sort of act as go-betweens or buffers with the rest of the YLS community.
