L-O-L if you think BBN and Rivers are good schools or close to the top in MA |
| For a SLAC, Holy Cross has a good combination of academics and athletics. Perhaps the highest visibility among top25 LACs for playing big time opponents like Army, Navy, Northwestern, Syracuse, BC, and Harvard and Yale. |
no they aren't milton academy, i was just naming local privates off the top of my head that have a lot of wealthy students |
So what? I'm answering a question. |
I think the issue is access to Boston. Boston is much more accessible from BC than HC. |
| By car one can get from the HC campus to Boston in 1 hour. Access to Mass Pike is 5 minutes and Worcester is closer to Providence, Hartford and for skiers best ski area in Massachusetts is 20 minutes from Holy Cross. |

The oldest Div1(FCS) football rivalry in Massachusetts continues today with Holy Cross hosting the Harvard Crimson. This will be the 76th meeting in a series that began in 1904. Speaks to the prestige the Ivies viewed HC. Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, and Brown all have played HC in some cases for over 130 years. In those days the WASP elite didn’t associate with many non Ivies but they had respect for old money Catholic school Holy Cross. They would never play BC or Villanova. The Crimson are loaded this year and HC is winless, could be a lot of happy Crimson fans today.

Um, this isn't a football thread as far as I know. HC boosters are grasping for everything. |
| It does tell you about the vibe and tradition of Holy Cross. Multiple threads about Big time football schools in the SEC and Big10 going on this website for over a month. Why be critical of a great little school like Holy Cross good for them. |
|
Holy Cross is a wonderful place with a lot of great, compelling reasons to attend.
Football, however, is not one of them. |
Don’t over react to the current game score. Harvard is very strong this year. |
+1 Clark university is in Worcester too. Absolutely no one associates that school with "Boston." |
|
No one knows anything about Clark. Enrollment declines and budget deficits happening at Clark. Don’t care about that school.

I went to Holy Cross. (Big law partner of that matters. Female).
This is it in Boston thread after thread is silly. It isn’t. But it is close. And may what makes it different than schools like Clark is that many students live in Boston area. Many students have cars. Many students have friends at BC. Many students have place on Cape Cod. So I would consider it a college that takes advantage of the Boston area and vibe. Amazing school. Too bad my kids thought it was too small. So there is that. Holy Cross wands kids who want to be there so if you kid doesn’t or is on the fence, don’t go. Someone else will take the slot. Good luck to all. Ps I do agree that HC has some very strong female alumni. Male too. But just pointing it out. Worcester is a non factor. |
| Holy Cross was great in football and won 6 straight Patriot League titles under Coach Chesney. As often happens a bigger school James Madison in higher football division hired him away. HC hired the wrong Coach things will change but it is worse at BC. BC got beat by Pitt today 49-7 and they pay their Coach over $4 million a year. |
