| People vote for these crazies on the school board and then they complain about the stuff that they implement, such as all the holidays. |
HS students aren't known to be long sighted so I doubt you presented this "warm up" question fairly. |
You sound unhinged! |
Yippee yay for you! You aren't representing most of us. So there's that. |
If it is good for Gatehouse, then they do it. Students and learning are not the FCPS priorities. |
+1 this. I’m so tired of hearing parents say - but I’m working! You have kids. It’s your responsibility to figure out childcare, not the school’s. You get the calendar early enough and will have to figure it out. Life is about choices. You chose to work, now either take the day off or send them to a one day camp. Or become a stay at home parent. But either way, they are your kids and it’s your responsibility to figure out what to do with them when the day is off. |
PP does not understand that the purpose of schoos is to teach..kids need to be in school. Get rid of early release days. Make religious holidays teacher work days. |
This is the answer. This crazy schedule has been in effect for years. This board was elected (many of them again) in 2023. If people really had a problem with the calendar, they would have voted differently. Saying “fire the school board” makes no sense. The only people who can fire them are the voters. And they didn’t do that. |
| As a teacher a day off is nice but I get Sunday anxiety going back. No fun to have it in the middle of the week. |
Do you think the majority of the people voting on election day in an odd year are parents? Because that's certainly not the case at my polling place. At all. The people electing our school board are politically very active, which means they skew to the edges of each party's ideology. |
| Just made it feel like two Mondays this week. I don't like the middle-of-the-week single days off for my high school kids, because they sleep in and then can't fall asleep, and then have to get up early for school the next day. |
Sadly, it is likely true. Think about this: why are the party reps outside with sample ballots? The answer: people vote on party lines. They have done no research. That explains our School Board. No better example than Abrar Omeish scheming the Fairfax Dem Committee endorsement vote. People had no idea who they were voting for. And, the GOP has pretty much given up. Say what you want about Elizabeth Schultz, she at least gave another viewpoint. Had she not been so vocal, would she have been more effective? Not likely. By the time she was elected, we had the extreme left on the Board. Not all were extreme left, but enough. Now, most seem to be extreme. Think about it--what did we get after Schultz? Laura Jane Cohen. And, now we have Sandy Anderson. I know this and I am not even in Springfield. Several are just left learning. Several are way left. And, a couple are just interested in preserving their positions and being reelected our elected for a different office. Moon used to use common sense. But, since he returned, he is far more political. I guess because he read the tea leaves after Omeish ousted him. I just want some common sense. |
And yet somehow despite that we are still getting out super late in June. |
It's because Labor Day is September 7th and we start two weeks before like we have recently. The last day for students is mid June. |
Yeah, that's dumb and unnecessary. |
